Excellence Playa Mujeres Brides Post Here!

Recommended Posts

OMG ladies I've just spent half of my day reading through all these posts! I stumbled upon this site a few times before when my fiance and me were less focused EPM. My fiance and I are planning a destination wedding in August 2011!

For some reason our travel agent really really discouraged us from booking the EPM and never really gave us that strong of reason why. Mostly she just said that it was quite the party scene and that their has been problems with rowdy guests in the past.... has anyone else heard this or had similar problems with their TA?

We really love the EPM so were trying to make it work! It's a great site and this forum is exactly what every destination bride needs. I have a few questions for you ladies though, does can anybody email me pictures of the various reception areas at the EPM? I can't seem to open the links to a lot of the pictures i guess it's because i'm still new. My email is Cohen2be@gmail.com If anyone has pics of cakes and flowers, I'd love to see those too.

I also thought I saw a schedule for the resturants on an old post but now that I'm looking for it i can't find it anywhere. Does anyone have a copy or know what days which resturants are closed?

Thanks ladies, merry planning!

Welcome!!  I have actually the opposite as far as a "party scene" goes.  If you read through the 1,000's of reviews on Trip Advisor like I have you will see that almost everyone says that there is hardly any nightlife at all.  Most everyone there are honeymooners or people celebrating anniversaries.  It's not the type of place you will find spring breakers.  It's too far away from Cancun.  Two of my best friends just went on their honeymoon last year and also said the same thing.  Everyone drinks by the pool all day in the sun, takes a nap, heads to dinner and by that time you are worn out!!!  Makes sense to me!

As far as reception places I don't have pictures of anything but the X-Lounge.  I am trying not to bother Yamina too much with my emails.  She does not let you reserve till about a month or so prior to your wedding.

Wow!! Thank you so much for your information on FlipFlopman...I'm still going through his reviews but they are full of information, and even though I've already been to EPM there's still a lot of useful information.

I also really liked how they have a "LIVE at EPM" there people who are there write / review while they are there! Can't wait to keep reading his reviews!

Thanks again!

Rebecca

I didn't have any problems whatsoever with there being too much of a "party scene" although I did see 2-3 topless, older European women soaking up the sun :)

My dad was a little turned off my some canoodling by the pool - but come on, the place was SO romantic (and besides, I had too many other things to look at to really notice).

I am really sorry about anyone who has messaged me questions and requests for info - I was locked from my email account for a few months :(

If anyone needs anything - please ask - I still have every tidbit of miscellaneous info that I gathered up before I got married last year (although I still cry when I look at any of the lists, pictures, forms, etc that I have - they all bring back such awesome memories!)

My husband and I have booked a room at EPM to celebrate our 1 year anniversary next month (I swore I wouldn't be one of "those" people, but having been to Mexico a few times, I just don''t want to take a chance and be disappointed on where I stay).

The swim-up rooms were just as cool to us as the suites with the private dip-pool upstairs (we split our 11 day stay into two rooms - one pre-wedding and one post-wedding) . Although I enjoyed upgrading to the "Excellence" club, it was really only because they have a special concierge-lobby area that had a little buffet of hors d'oevres that you could walk in and grab a plate anytime without putting on clothes and sitting down and stuff (just lazy I guess).  We won't be upgrading this time.

Word of advice, though, if you take a day-trip to Isla Mujares - be very careful!! They drive ridiculously and our experience was horrible; we totally felt like we were being harrassed or hustled.  On the other hand - downtown Cancun is really cool (as long as you don't mind saying "No thank you" every 2 minutes - which I don't) and make sure you try a homemade "michelada"! YUM!

Congrats Everyone :)

Does anybody know where at Excellence Playa Mujeres is a good spot for the reception? My fiance Joel and I are getting married November 4, 2010 and we would like to have an outdoors reception for about 30-35 people...any ideas from past brides or brides-to-be?

Hey girls,

What are you doing for the music for the ceremony? We would like to hire a violinist, but it's expensive. We were thinking of creating our own playlist, but I'm not sure how that would work. Any ideas or advice?

Thanks,

Mindy

I was just going to bring an ipod with a designated playlist for ceremony and one for cocktail hour.  All the musicians for hire seem a little pricey for a 15 person wedding.  :)

Yamina told me we will have use of a sound system for the actual wedding, and I have heard of several people bringing their own ipod speakers for the cocktail hour or reception.

We are trying to get married in May 2011.  I just wanted to say thanks for all the info!  The last thing - I am really concerned about getting the best rate for my guests.  Did you ladies get a discount/etc for your stay?  We were thinking of staying for 14 days.  We probably have 30 rooms @ 3 days each for the wedding.  Thanks for any input!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
