When do you decorate for the holidays?

Today we went shopping for all our Thanksgiving supplies and I decided to get the living room and house clean because the first of our guests arrives tomorrow.

My mom flies in tomorrow evening and then my step-dad will be here Tuesday. Lucky me gets Wednesday off as well.

We are also having some friends over for Thanksgiving so we will have a full house (we live in a townhome so not a whole lot of room).

Anyway, while I was cleaning I decided to go ahead and make room for the Christmas tree (we bought a fake last year much to my hubby's dismay).

Our family tradition is to decorate Thanksgiving weekend, but I am kinda considering setting the tree up so we can do it Thanksgiving night (I think I am excited because this is my first Christmas being a mommy and I know she won't remember it, I will always remember her first Christmas)

So when do you set up your holiday decor?

Growing up we decorated just 1-2 weeks before Christmas because we left everything up until the feast of the 3 kings which I believe is january 6th. (you get to give a gift that day too..woohoo!)

Now DH & I get the tree 2-3 weeks prior to Christmas, we like it to be sort of fresh on Christmas day and take it down shortly thereafter.

When I was shopping for Halloween candy at Ralph's they were decorating for Christmas - it was madness!

We usually try not to decorate until after Thanksgiving BUT Ryan is off this weekend and it will be his last off until the middle of December. We are going to decorate the outside tomorrow I think. Then I will decorate the inside after Thanksgiving. We will probably do our tree next weekend.

I try to get everything up by right after Thanksgiving. This year is gonna be a task though with painting and redoing all the floors upstairs! I feel like I live in a dust hole right now. Plus packing more stuff then anything in my dining room! So I'll prolly do it around the 2nd week in Dec.

We to keep all our stuff up until after the Feast of the 3 Kings. I think my mother would kill me if I took it down sooner, oh and so would the cat who takes up residence under the tree.

We are doing it Thanksgiving weekend as usual. I tried to get Brian to set up the tree this weekend, but he said no way because it's too early. I totally know what you mean about being excited though, Christine. Even though Ainsleigh and Aiden have no idea what's going on and won't remember this, Christmas is like 1000 times more fun and exciting now. I wrapped a bunch of presents yesterday and Aiden is already trying to get into them and rip the paper off. It's going to be so much fun to see him destroy all the wrapping paper/gift bags. I'll have to break out the video recorder.

Anyway, it's kind of good that we did wait, because I guess since he's crawling around and getting into everything, I have to buy one of those babygates to put around the tree. I just wish they weren't so ugly sad.gif

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
