with this tough economy we have been trying to buy household products based on good deals instead of brands but this AM i realized that i am hating this new toilet paper LOL. i told DH and he laughed and was like you are so brand loyal to certain things i am not surprised - i really didn't even realize how much i was. i told him i would rather clip coupons than switch from the brands i like again!!!!

what brands are you loyal too?

here are mine:

Toilet Paper - Cottonelle Double Roll

Paper Towels - Viva or Bounty no print tear away (so you take 1/2 piece)

Oh man, have you hit the nail on the head. We always argue about the name brand things that I buy. I just have to get the brands that I like. He totally doesn't understand & just looks at me & shakes his head.

We went to BJ's on Monday night. I wanted to get Cottonelle specifically the ones with the aloe but they didn't have those. He was like, is your butt really gonna know that the tissue doesn't have aloe? I was like, why ofcourse it will-LOL. Then he pointed towards some generic brand, and asked why we couldnt get that. Ofcourse I refused. I told him Cottonelle is all we're gonna ever use cuz its nice & soft!

The same thing happened with the paper towels. I always get the Bounty select-a-size. He wanted to get something else cuz it was $1 dollar less. I just couldnt do it.
Sometimes I'd rather go shopping by myself so I don't have to hear him or see how he shakes his head, but most times I need him to go with me.

So this is a great thread & I'm glad that I'm not alone.

Here's mine:
Toilet Paper - Cottonelle Double Roll, preferably with aloe
Paper Towels - Bounty, select-a-size
Soap - Dove, with the exfoliating beads
Toothpaste - Colgate
Razors - Intuition
Dish Washing liquid-Dawn Direct foam
Aluminum Foil-Reynolds Wrap
Household cleaning products-Clorox clean up, Mr.Clean
Detergent-Gain, Clorox bleach, Downy fabric softner

Oh yes.. Alyssia good topic... I can't help it on alot of things... It's got to be stuck in our psyche that these are the better things to use hence Brand Name items. Funny thing is household cleaning and personal stuff need to be brand name... but for actual food shopping, I do try out the store brands alot and don't even think about it .. LOL but never a cleaning product.. I will clip every weekend for coupons to get what I want.

Toilet Paper - Charmin

Paper Towels - Select a Size Bounty

Dishwasher Soap - Cascade

Clothes Soap - Tide

Cleaning products in general - Comet, Mr Clean, Clorox, Pine Sol...

Jays grooming items... Gillette everything, Head and Shoulders, Bath and Body Works Mens line

My stuff - Joico hairproducts, Biore heated face wash, Renew contact cleaner,

Food generic buys - things I never think twice about picking up cheaper

bread crumbs

white bread

coffee creamer

butter

shredded cheeses

plain soups - tomato, cream of mush, and such

Choc Chips

i'm not. i get the scott, cheapo tp. i didn't like cottonelle. i felt like it flaked.

I like mixing it up. I buy a different type of soda each time. I usually rotate through coke, pepsi, & dr. pepper. I'm on dr. pepper right now & I'm loving it. but then it gets old so i move to the next.

i like varying my soap scents & detergent. also shampoo. i get a different brand each time. but then there are brands i skip, like fruitise. id makes my hair greesy.

i do stick tot he same facewash- clean & clear. but, i get a different type of toothpaste, body wash...

oh & when I bought beer I'd buy a different brand each time.

I do stick to foods more. I always get ragu old world style traditional sauce. i rotate cereals.

I am with you! I can't help it, but I hate cheap tp. I love to buy Charmin ultra soft. As for razors, I use intuition too. It's soooo expensive. I am not picky about household cleaners, but I do like to use Gain or Tide detergent. For toothpaste I use Rembrandt whitening. It tastes so gross, but it works wonders. I am a snob i guess when it comes to tp. I have my FI hooked on it too.

Funnily enough I'm more willing to try the no-name brands than my husband is. He's quite the brand name junkie. I however love to get a bargain where I can. I'll try anything once, but after COUNTLESS trials, we have come to agree that there are some things that need to be brand name:

Kraft Dinner Macaroni and Cheese (it really is the cheesiest, who knew??)

Heinz Ketchup

Minute Maid Orange Juice

Kraft Peanut Butter (although Jif comes in a close second)

Tetley Tea Bags

There are countless President's Choice products that are pretty good compared to their name brand counterparts, so where possible I buy those. And of course, there are the personal hygeine products, where generic just doesn't cut it:

Pantene Shampoo (I have super thick hair that just hangs limp if I don't use a good shampoo)

Pantene Conditioner (same as above)

St. Ives facial cleanser

Right Guard Deoderant (for the hubby)

Vichy face cream (very dry, very sensitive skin, it took me FOREVER to find a cream that doesn't make me flake or break out)

The only things I'm really brand loyal to are cleaning products and detergent: method and seventh generation.

Food, I usually, but there's not one specific brand I use for each. I rotate through brand names though.

The stuff I always go generic on are canned/frozen vegetables (I just get the store brand), and stuff like plastic baggies, foil, plastic wrap, etc.

I only use Dawn dishsoap in the original blue formula and o-cello sponges. I won't do laundry without Suavitel, I buy Olay soap for the shower even when it's twice the price of other good soap, and only Listerine toothpaste. Period, ever, even if I have to sacrifice in other areas.

So I guess I am pretty particular about certain products but most things I can swap out as needed.

Yup, we still splurge for Method cleaning products. I love the "wood for good" and counter cleaners. From Costco we get the more expensive environmentally friendly dish soap and laundry detergent. Some things are not worth paying less for......like my children's future environment :) We do buy cheap paper towells and tp.....no fuss there. A few others I refuse to give up:

*Intuition razors..they are expensive!

*Pureology hair care

*Alba body butters

*Skin Appetit facial care....LOVE it:

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
