Thanks Tracy for PM me, I've been completely overwhelmed with Christmas and all and have lost track of how soon I have to have everything done... We have been to EDSS before and can't wait to be married there...

Photographers...
I agree the prices for what's listed is pretty pricey.. but I did contact some of the photographers directly and got a better rate from mexican weddings... lowest price on Lomas-weddings was $2000, but he agreed to $578US... since I heard 'Caribe' was kinda bottom of the barrell..

Wedding dinner..
The resort offers the 'free' dinner at the Arrefics (sp) restaurant.. This place is by far IMO the worst restaurant there. It is OK.. but don't expect too much or you may be disappointed... I have talked to another EDSS Bride who said on her wedding day there were 4 weddings.. and she had to chance restaurants... if this happens to you.. JUMP at the chance.. the Italian is the BEST!! especially for wedding atmosphere!!

Music
as for a reception.. I have heard of lots of brides wanting to use thier own IPOD for thier dance... but the resort wants to charge you $250 to use thiers.... a Bride told me that was her situation about a month ago at her wedding... she threatened to cancel the entire cocktail party.. and they let her use her own IPOD...

Right now I am doing final details.. figuring the menu for the wedding day supper... so it's very exciting and stressfull..

catch you all later!
So you don't recommend the restaurant that is included in our pacakge... good to know.. I just found out last week that this was the option for our reception.. but was leaning more towards the private beach dinner anyways.. this may have just made my desicion!!

So you have decided to go with Mexican Wedding photographers? I am thinking the same thing... I have been in contact with them and they have my date available still and their pricing is a little more but I thought Caribe's were to low as well and you get what you pay for right?? How did you get them to lower their pricing?? I was looking at the package they offer for 2033US and asked if it could be charged the amount in CAD dollars since our dollar is so low and they said they couldn't! If you could give me some insight that would be awesome!!!

Where in Sask are you from??

I emailed them directly from thier wedbsite.. When you go into the Lomas-Travel website... and are redirected to thier indiviual websites to view thier pictures.... I just emailed them directly... and Mexican Weddings.. responded VERY fast... I think we sent back three or four emails a day for about a week... (While one of the other photographers just emailed me back last week after waiting a two months)

I customize a package and even picked the photgrapher.. got to look through samples of his work.. we went with Eduado from Mexican weddings..

Meal

definately if you were leaning towards a different reception dinner than the free one.. do it... we will only eat at the Arrifics once and will never eat there again... lol...

P.S. I just emailed the resort asking when the 'rumoured spa' was going to be finished construction... and they told me there is no NEW SPA or plans for a new spa.... the construction has been 'general maintenance' and has been completed as of December 15th, as now they are geared up for the new travel season...

interesting...

This is all very interesting, i was told that if i booked the photographer not through Lomas you would still be responsible for the $500/fee, so just check that out... if not, that is a terrific deal, congrats! i am excited about my photographers anyways, i am sure they will do a great job, so not too worried now...

I hope the construction is done too... i just want perfection, is that too much to ask? j/k!

Did you end up figuring where you are having your dance? When exactly do you do the cocktails if you end up doing them? I am soo lost on when stuff is to be done!!! LOL... any new information you've got a hold of, and you could share would be lovely!!!

We are planning to have dinner at Arrifces. I'm hoping it is okay. It doesn't need to be out of this world amazing, I just want it to be good enough that people leave full and happy. I would LOVE to have a private event, but I find it CRAZY that we are already paying so much for 40 people to come that we need to pay another $60 on top of that! + decorations/ lighting/ etc etc etc etc!

I still havent figured out the dance, I think we are going to do an open bar after the reception and will do speeches and the dance there. Hopefully it will be nice. It is just too bad that we will not have the photographer around any more to catch the speech candids and dance shots. Oh well. I'll pester my friends to go all snap happy!

I may try to see if Lomas will give us a better rate on the private events. The economy is down and maybe they're hurting for money too.....we'll see!

I'll keep you posted!

OOhh also - does anyoneknow the status of the pier? Is it rebuilt yet or is it just a mess of broken sticks. Saw some great wedding shots when it was a standing structure and they were lovely. Hoping to have that for ours. But....if it isn't there, it isn't there! What can you do!

I was thinking the same thing about the pier... I will ask Valeria today and she will usually get back to me in like the same day or tomorrow... I've seen some recent photos of the resort on trip advisor and if I recall it looks like the pier is standing... but I am gonna double check and let ya know!!! :)

edssbride09 - I contacted Carolina about booking an 'approved' photographer but not through Lomas.. and she assured me this is not a problem as Mexican Weddings is an approved photographer and there will not be a $500 charge... Also I was looking on Lomas website and they say there is acharge for not using on of thier photographers.. not packages..

Pier

As I understand it the pier is gone.. it was there two years ago but has been taken out by storms and has not been rebuilt. there is only the 'gazebo' at what was the entrance to the pier.. which is bacically where your wedding would be held...

and as I understand it there is no plans to rebuild the pier at this time...

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
