So we are renting a tent, and a dance-floor. Since we have more than 30 that is our only option, but happens to be exactly what we want! I am using Carolina for my WC, she seems great, i actually need to get back in touch with her since i am in a bit of a wedding planning lull lately...

We are not using one of their photographers, though i almost did... it just depends what you want. I didn't want to spend a fortune, but i wanted all my pictures (1 of the options doesn't give you them), I also wanted more than a couple hours, and booked with moments that matter photography. They are actually from Calgary, moving down to riviera maya (They are on this forum all the time!), and they were really reasonable, figured it was worth the $500 fee to the resort to have someone that has an interest in taking amazing photos! Anyways, i thought the resort photogs were good, but the options i wanted were too expensive, i felt like i was getting ripped off!

I am not doing a TTD, because we are leaving the day after the wedding! I would have loved to do one, and if i did, i think i would have just worn my same dress... it would have been fun!

Oh, and i think most of the stuff at the resort is ridiculously overpriced, so centerpieces are definitely something i shall make up beforehand... I am also using fake flowers (i was quoted $25/calla!).

What are you planning? How many guests?
I don't even know what all the options are as to where we can have a dance or reception... I have seen all the pictures on their website and what not, but haven't gone into that much detail with Valeria yet. But we are having like maybe 20 people at the most I would say coming.. so thats nice.. all I know right now is we are doing the beach wedding, I think I want to do the private beach dinner as sort of our reception thing and perhaps go out dancing or have a spot where we can dance at the resort.
I haven't been quoted anything for flowers or anything like that, but if we do the private beach dinner thing I won't even worry all that much about centerpieces unless like you we bring them from home premade.

As for our photographer we haven't quite decided yet, but I am looking more and more at Mexican Wedding Photos, its one of the approved ones, she has some pretty cool shots that I think she would do a pretty good job at our wedding. Thing is her pricing is in US and I am trying to get one of her packages for the same price as shes got quoted in US, I will see how that goes. That sucks that you are leaving the day after your wedding so you can't do the TTD... I may even do mine if I do it the day before in the second dress... haven't decided on that.

What are your colors and do you have official bridesmaids and all the good stuff? Ours is sort of laid back I have asked my sister to be a witness, but I am not picking out their dresses just the color and material so they all at least look the same in pictures. My fiance's two sisters are probably going to be in the other color I have chosen. I can't wait to start all the planning! Mine is still a ways away but I am super excited!

Unfortunately no amount of begging will get them to allow children of any age on site... I tried everything to allow a new-born to be allowed and it is a no-go... no children of any age...

Yeah I tried that one too.. I only had one kid that would have ended up coming but in the beginning the parents told me they weren't bringing him... but when I told them I booked this resort and it was an adults only then they decided they wanted to bring him.. so I asked my WC and she told me no, they couldn't change their policies or anything ... so yeah unfortunatley they won't be allowed! It sucks in a way.. but for me it wasn't that big of a deal cause there was only the possibility of the one coming anyways!

Hello! I am getting married at the EDSS on March 19 of next year and I can't wait! I'm working with Valeria as well and she has been absolutely amazing!!

Also, after all the talk of the private events - did you guys know you can have up to 40 people in the restaurant! You get 30 people for free, and any extra person is a $25 pp fee. We decided to do our 36 person reception in the restaurant and are still trying to figure out how to do speeches and dances. Thinking we may do a cocktail after the wedding or may do a cocktail dessert party after the dinner!

Ah so many options!

You are getting married before me! Yay! I thought the cap was 30, so i ruled that out long ago... Gosh that would save us a TON of money not to do the private on the beach... but... it will be so nice out there! If only the stupid tent wasn't almost $2K to rent!!! Augh, annoying.

If you do it at one of the restaurants what will the setup be for if you had say 40 people? Would you get to decorate? Would everyone be together? Could you dance, do speeches? I am so curious!

The cap for the free dinner is 30, but I asked what the options were for 36 people and Valeria let me know we could still have the dinner in the restaurant. We would love to have the reception on the beach, but the rates they charge are pretty much the same as what we would pay here. It is ridiculous, especially since everyone is already paying so much to go there already!

As for the private beach do you think you really need a tent? Only one of the pictures I've seen shows a tent. I know tey have a back up location if there is rain, but it rarely rains....and if it does it's not for long.

The setup for 40 people in the restaurant is either a big square or two separate tables. And they do decorate it, I have pics that I can send you if you would like. And if you buy flowers for your wedding site you can use those to decorate the restaurant area.

I think you could choose how to decorate, we aren't because what they do is good enough. Unfortunately the worst part is the speeches and dances. You cannot do those in the restaurant.....which is why we're thinking of having a cocktail reception after the wedding or after the dinner in order to get those things in.

Also - I'm from TO. You?

I'm curious about the Calgary photographers who are moving down to the MR. What rates did they charge you for the photo package?

Which restaurant are you having the dinner? I am still trying to determine if we want to do the private beach dinner instead of a restaurant because my guests numbers are pretty small... well who I think will come anyways. Did you end up figuring where you are having your dance? When exactly do you do the cocktails if you end up doing them? I am soo lost on when stuff is to be done!!! LOL... any new information you've got a hold of, and you could share would be lovely!!!

Hey everyone!!

Thanks Tracy for PM me, I've been completely overwhelmed with Christmas and all and have lost track of how soon I have to have everything done... We have been to EDSS before and can't wait to be married there...

Photographers...

I agree the prices for what's listed is pretty pricey.. but I did contact some of the photographers directly and got a better rate from mexican weddings... lowest price on Lomas-weddings was $2000, but he agreed to $578US... since I heard 'Caribe' was kinda bottom of the barrell..

Wedding dinner..

The resort offers the 'free' dinner at the Arrefics (sp) restaurant.. This place is by far IMO the worst restaurant there. It is OK.. but don't expect too much or you may be disappointed... I have talked to another EDSS Bride who said on her wedding day there were 4 weddings.. and she had to chance restaurants... if this happens to you.. JUMP at the chance.. the Italian is the BEST!! especially for wedding atmosphere!!

Music

as for a reception.. I have heard of lots of brides wanting to use thier own IPOD for thier dance... but the resort wants to charge you $250 to use thiers.... a Bride told me that was her situation about a month ago at her wedding... she threatened to cancel the entire cocktail party.. and they let her use her own IPOD...

Right now I am doing final details.. figuring the menu for the wedding day supper... so it's very exciting and stressfull..

catch you all later!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
