As originally I was supposed to be married at Dreams Tulum, our wedding programs refer to that resort despite our wedding at Secrets Maroma Beach (it was too late to change them)

Getting ready...

P.S. - All these shots were taken by the resort photographer. On a quick note, I wasn't overly happy with his shots so if you have the opportunity to hire another or bring someone with you, I would recommend you do so. Most of the photos I am posting turned out quite nice, however, they were somewhat few and far between unfortunately.

The individual rooms are a beautiful backdrop for photos, as you will see and as I noted earlier, all rooms are identical inside despite what room category you book.

This is a photo of myself with Landy, my wedding coordinator. As she was brought over from Dreams to do most of the planning (only some of it was done by Cecilia), she was the one mainly in charge of everything and it was her that I thank for everything running so smoothly and turning out so beautifully on my wedding day.

This is a good photo of my bouquet (beautiful) and the make-up job that the lady at the spa did. She used my own products instead of hers (at my request), but as you can see she did a pretty nice job!

WEDDING CEREMONY

You will note that even though the gazebo is beside the swimming pool, the photographer stood in that area (with the pool behind him) and there were lots of clear shots without people walking around in bathing suits behind the gazebo (don't get me wrong, it did happen, in my wedding video a lady in a bikini walks by and stops to stare for a minute), but the photos generally were clear of other tourists.

GROUP PHOTOS

Again... not super impressed with the photographer. All the cute poses that we tried were suggested by my family/friends and the photographer gave us little to no direction. The only thing I found him good at was he would count to three as to when we should open our eyes for photos (it was really bright).

Of all the photos we took on the beach, there were not too many that I really liked. Thank goodness for my TTD shoot the next day with a different photographer for some better shots!

PHOTOS AFTER THE WEDDING...

Last time I'll say this, NOT impressed with the photographer. Although the pictures I have posted here are quite nice, there was not that many of them. There were lots with my eyes closed despite the photographer counting to three when to open them and he didn't give us any direction at all.

Final note about the photographer for you ladies that live in CANADA... the photo book and pictures were NOT ready for us when we left Mexico (despite staying 2 weeks) and the photographer said he would send them to us. We did not think ahead of time to make a claim for them at customs when we left Mexico so when the package arrived, we had to pay $55 for GST and PST with a high declared photo on the pictures. There was a way out of this and that was if you ticked a box on your customs form to say "goods to follow". I would recommend you make sure to do this on your way home (if you haven't claimed your maximum amount) so that you can save yourself $55. The value the photographer claimed the photos, video and book to be was $400. So, make a claim for those items on your way back home and tick the box "goods to follow".

The grounds at Secrets are lovely and a great backdrop for photos:

THANKS EVERYONE... HOPE YOUR WEDDING AT SECRETS IS JUST AS BEAUTIFUL AS MINE WAS!!!

If you are considering Secrets, I don't think you'd be disappointed with much of anything. It was all perfect, except for the resort photographer (doooooo find someone else would be my recommendation). Other than that, it was perfect!!

I got them at an Aldo Factory Outlet store here in Vancouver. Unfortunately they were the last pair (display) and one was dirtier than the other (leaving the right foot to try on)... so I couldn't get another pair. They were however marked down to $75 so I was pretty happy regardless.

Thanks everyone, the day was beautiful. Secrets is a beautiful backdrop to any wedding so if you end up choosing it, you will be happy with the scenery in your photos.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
