Economic crisis and rising vendor prices?! wtf!?

The transportation is the only noticeable difference that I have seen, but that is because I have booked the rest of my vendors already. I know the hotels are increasing their prices as well for wedding related expenses thought in 2009. Has anyone else noticed a hike in prices?

After posting my Sheraton wedding budget and comparing it to Dreams I am now getting married at Dreams on 11/14/09. I went to orbitz or travelocity (can't remember) but they had Dreams for $175pp per night. I think that's pretty reasonable compared to other prices for this hotel plus I think that there will still be some really good deals so people would be more apt to travel.

Our prices have increased dramatically since we booked. We booked in 2007 so we were able to lock-in a lot of the 2007 prices but the 08 and 09 prices are certainly higher and I have had to constantly remind my WC that we booked in 2007 to get the lower rates..

Hello Ana,

Well, if you have gotten jacked up prices, there are enough of us who aren't following that trend, so check all your possibilities in that vendor list, you may be surprised.

Happy hunting!,elefant.gif

I am baffled and pretty angry. I don't understand, when the world economies are crashing around us and people are losing their jobs left right and center, how is it effin possible that Cabo vendors (i'm generalizing because I'm planning this wedding in Cabo) have the courage to inflate their prices by 30-90%?!?!?!?!?! Am I on glue?! have I somehow missed out or slept through that chapter on economic theories?! and yes I said "INFLATE" because their prices are inflated and not at all a reflection of reality. grrrr! pokestick.gif I am so angry! Vendors around the world are losing business, people are losing their jobs, economic spending is at an all time low, am I to believe that in Cabo things are different?! eff! can someone just give me some perspective? because clearly I missed something!

phew, ok i feel a bit better now :) but seriously, I'm about 2.5 seconds away from having a heart attack

I also want to remind you that the dollar/peso price is SO high right now, we were able to buy dollars for $11 pesos 3 months ago and know it's almost at $15.
That is right... right now is actually a great tme to have a wedding in Mexico. The exchange rate is great. Basically, if the prices quoted to you are in pesos and you pay in pesos onsite (ie. at a restaurant or for that cute hat you have to have) you are going to get what is basically a 20-35% discount just by paying in pesos.

ie. 2 months ago I bought a hat in Cabo for $100 pesos = $10 dls
Today for the same hat $100 pesos = $7 dls !!!

So if you are smart get quotes in pesos NOT dollars!! Bring your debit card with you and pay in pesos onsite after you get a great exchange rate. Todays exchange rate in Cabo was $13.47 pesos to the dollar. Last friday it was $13.87.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
