Excursions in the Riviera Maya

Recommended Posts

Does anyone know of any fun excursions in the Riviera Maya and if so, the name, email address or the website of the tour company?

I know we can find the typical "swim with the dolphins" and "snorkling" tours, but we want to see if there is anything else available that may be fun for our guests. My FI has been looking into an ATV tour for the guys and that looks pretty good.......Any info would sure be helpful!!!

Thanks so much!!!

I recommend going to Xel Ha. When Steve and I went to Mexico last year we went there and it was amazing. You get dropped off in the morning and do as you please for the day until the bus comes back to get you. There is a ton to do including snorkeling, swimming with dolphins, lazing around in hammock city, and there is even an underwater walk (kind of like scuba diving).

My personal favorite thing was the lazy river. When you get on you're in fresh water and when you get off you're in salt water. Along the way there were places to stop to either cliff jump yourself or watch others take the plunge.

Fabulous place and we'll defiantly be heading there again next year with our gang.

I also totally recommend Xel-Ha. I went there with friends and my husband after we were married and in addition to everything listed in the last post, it's all you can eat and drink. The price if you buy on-line w/o transportation is $67. We booked our own van since there was 10 of us. The snorkeling was great - we saw a sting ray and some large fish. The best snorkeling is off of the rocks vs. the middle of the lagoon.

Capt. Ricks is awesome!!! Ran by one couple; you can usually see them cruising around in their golf car on the docks in Puerto Aventures. I think their boats run from $400-600 for 4hours. We we weren't able to fish this time, but we did stop in to see them. They even have a boat that use to be owned by Enrique Iglesias!! (We fished with them on our other trips, and had an awesome time!)

Other stuff we did:
The Dolphins at Puerto Adventures are the best we've seen.

As for doing tours, we found that just renting a jeep/car and splitting the cost between a few people was cheaper, and much more fun. Driving there is really easy. Coco Bongo in Cancun is insane. The best club I've ever been too, and the best I think we'll ever see!!

Xel-ha was awesome as well. Get pics with the birds & try to go for a whole day.

We also rented Harley Davidsons in Playa, no bike license needed. It was awesome. Its $230 for 24 hrs. The bikes are a bit older; the softail is the best one. We cruised to Tulum, and then did the strip in Cancun. You can rent really nice harley's in cancun, but a license is needed, and a $2000.00 damage deposit.

We stopped by the Zip line tours; it looked awesome - but we ran out of time to go back to do it. (It's out by Tulum)

There are:

ATV tours - one just south of Playa

Air Speed boat tours - south of Playa - max 12 people per boat

Private catamaran tours in the evening from Puerto Aventuras

Fishing from Puerto Aventuras

Or you could do a snorkel/dive in a Cenote with everybody - that's pretty cool and not very common!

The Whale Sharks tour is amazing but only offered during the summer months - they start in June to September.

:)

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
