Awww, thank you Simistar!! Thank you so much for the advice!! :-) You're so helpful! The reason I even asked about the hair, was because you obviously got the short end of the stick in that dept, but I tend to see good reviews?! Although, you look great in your pics, so I suppose that's really all that matters!

Thanks again, i'm definitely going to keep checking out people's photos to see how they came out!

I wanted to have a sunset ceremony but in the end we ended up having a 4:30ish ceremony (I was late!) and sunset was 7:10 pm the night we got married. Like everyone else says the sun does sink very quickly because of the location of the resort relative to the sun. We had a legal ceremony that lasted about 25 minutes I'd say, then the "receiving line" after we walked down the aisle. Then we did our first dance, father daughter, and mother son before two group dances on the beach. (there was no where to have a dance inside and it was too windy for a dinner on the beach). Then we were served drinks on the beach, did group pictures, had our cocktail hour, and then went into dinner right as it was getting pretty dark. We did waste a lot of time with group pictures because I was completely disorganized and we did not take any before the ceremony. I would say if you're not doing any pictures before the ceremony allow about 45 minutes for group pictures post ceremony (if it's well organized). Definitely begin a list now with pictures that are important to you and then you can break that down into how to organize the group shots.

If you have anymore questions feel free to ask...I can't think straight right now but I hope I helped, at least a little! :)

No problem :) It's easy for me to recommend him because I really love our video!

:) happy planning SMB brides!

The resort charges $100 for any and all outside vendors (that includes flowers, cake, videographer, etc). I didn't have to pay that because instead we paid for their entire stay. lol BUT also didn't tell them that two of our guests were our photographers. I can't say whether I loved mine or not and that is irrelevant considering you're looking for a local. I think that the guy who did my video (Miguel Cantarelli) also has photographers that work him. He has some reviews on here already so you can get a good idea of what his work is like.

I had Alicia do my hair and make-up for a trial (i used the hair and make-up that is included in the package). I rarely wear make-up on a daily basis so whenever I have make-up on I think I look lovely. :) haha At any rate there are a few things that I had to change for the day of our wedding. The first day she put powder and foundation? on my decollete and front of my shoulders as well as on my face. I hate that so I told her not to do that on our wedding day. For the trial she made my hair pouf really gigantic, almost beehive-ish I thought so I told her to make it skinnier and smaller for our wedding. Looking back now I wish I would have had an even smaller pouf but oh well. I was very specific on how I wanted my hair curled so I showed her how I wanted it done during the trial run. I would do like Simistar suggested and do learn how to do your own hair and make-up and know HOW you want it done then use the package hair and make-up for a trial. I would not trust their "creativity" to just go at on my wedding day. : )

this is the best example I have right now of my hair and make-up (excuse the squinting, it was really bright for a while! :)

If I can help any more just let me know! Unfortunately the daily emails are not being sent to me anymore even though my subscription says daily. It will be faster if you PM me with any questions. :)

Hello Maroma Brides! I just got married on July 2 at SMB and was so happy with absolutely everything!

Sunset Time

The sunset occurred at 7:30pm on July 2. Our ceremony was scheduled for 6pm. I think we had just enough time for pictures after the ceremony. The judge and photographer were running a bit late due to road construction so I don't believe the ceremony started until 6:15 or so. Plan plenty of time for people to be late and to get your pictures done before the sun goes down!

Hair

I had my hair done in the salon and was very pleased! I did a run through in my hometown (having AHR) and took some pictures with me to SMB. I showed these to the hair person and she did it a bit different but right along the lines of what I was going for. She was more than willing to adjust it when she was done to get it really close to what I wanted!

Makeup

I wear makeup every day - not too much, just going for the natural look. Before I left for Mexico, I went to my makeup store, took all my makeup and talked through with them what to do on my wedding day. I bought some new products and used the tips on my day. The salon has a nice women's room which I used to do my makeup after getting my hair done.

Photos

I really wanted great photos of our wedding and I and so please with what we got! I used resort photographer principal and our photographer was Antionto. He directed us and we were just laughing and having a great time and he captured the moment I was hoping for! If you are interested in seeing my photos, please send me a PM. I'm happy to share!

Video

Since it was just my FI and me at the wedding, we got a video and I LOVE IT!!! Granted it isn't perfect b/c sometimes we were looking at the photographer and sometimes at the videographer but it is so wonderful to have something beautiful to show my family and friends!

Preferred Club

We LOVED having a preferred room with access to the preferred club! It was GREAT! There are three computers, bar, snacks all throughout the day, a TV and comfy places to sit. The club is between buildings 24 & 25 (If anything I might be off by one number) and with our room in 25 it was so close to bop in for a drink, snack or to hop on the computer! Totally worth it!

I am using the photos from the wedding package we bought for some group shots, but we also hired an outside photographer from Mexico. We also wanted to bring a guy from Dallas, but the costs were adding up. I found this one through a friend--her pics were awesome.

Prices were reasonable (I thought) also:

They don't do books. CD's only, which saves $$

--One hour with 150 pictures high res in a CD $500

--4 hours with 250 pictures high res. In a CD $750

--6 hours with 350 pic. $900

We chose the $900 package, b/c we figured for $150 we get 100 extra pics. That's not a bad deal.

Hey!

photography - I actually used moments that matter photography and they were great! I did look into Del Sol but they were way too expensive for just a short period of time. Moments that Matter was much more affordable and we had them for the whole day! Now that my wedding is over...I can say I wouldn't change my photographer choice for the world. They were great! I would absolutely recommend using them, you will not be disappointed. I will post some pictures once I receive them.

I think the resort charges $80 per person for outside vendors. Cecilia ended up charging us $100 for both lincoln and lori which was nice.

videographer - He was great! He is the one that is used with the resort wedding package not an outside vendor. I would double check with cecilia to make sure he is the one used for your ceremony. His name is Miguel Angel Cantarell. He delivered our video to our room in about 2 days...it came out really nice.

Hair and makeup - I liked how mine came out. I just had my hair pulled back into somewhat of a bun (very simple). It was definitley slicked back but I guess it was kind of necessary so as not to have a million flyaways and my hair all over the place during the ceremony. I don't wear much make up at all so it was alot for me but it looked nice. My eyes were a bit heavy but I don't really wear eyeshadow so I guess you can see what you think from my pictures when I post them. I think the woman that did both my hair and makeup was Alicia. I know my sister did not like her make up but I'd have to ask her if she remembers the lady's name that did it.

  • 3 weeks later...

Hi Everyone,

I am getting married at SMB next month- Sept 7th. Just my FI and I- no guests.

I am in the process now on deciding between 2 photographers -Del Sol or Claudia Rodriquez. The pictures will be one of the most important parts of that day.

And I am also deciding on who will do my hair and makeup. I am choosing not to go with the Spa at the hotel to do my hair and makeup. I am bringing in an outside vendor.

I will let you know how the wedding goes.......

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
