Not thrilled about it, and it's costing me a lot more, but I don't think everyone will dance when it's still bright out! I'm arriving 3 days early to scope some locations out too. Do you have any pictures of the locations? I only saw the few on the SM brochure and website.

If I'm having 30-40 people, do you think going with the Ultimate Package is the better way to go, instead of paying per person for food? Everything's adding up so quickly, it's killing me! Lol

Yes, Ultimate packet is the best packet you can have, we were only in 10 people but at the end, Ultimate was cheaper then Complimentary + extra items.

Try to make a simulation with excel and you can see the difference.

If there is anyone here who did their wedding last minute(3 months out) and they had issues with the quota issue(that 80% of your guests must stay at SMB or else you cannot have your wedding there) and they were able to get around it, please let me know.  I am so angry right now because this was brought to my attention yesterday.  I don't have an issue with the $100.00 fee for the people coming from off site, I have an issue with the quota.  My father decided to stay next door because it's $500 per person cheaper for 4 days/3 nights so he could actually make it.  I need him to be able to walk me down the aisle, I've been waiting over 30 years for this moment! Did anyone get a travel agent and get a group rate?  Just trying to find a way to keep my wedding at SMB and not be forced to move over to Grand Velas where we are owners.  SMB is my current dream beach and resort.  Any advice would be super helpful. Thank You
Whoa! $500 cheaper per person? Just out of curiosity, what rate are your guest paying? I'm currently booked at Now Jade but after visiting a family resort within the same brand we are second guessing. Things are a lot different at an Adults Only resort. Thanks

I had the same situation, at the beginning I was going with the complimentary but at the end the Ultimate worked much more better.

My suggestion to save money is exchange services included in the Ultimate package that you are not interested in, for other that you need and you would pay as an extra.

For example, I have exchange the massages for make up and hairdress trial. I didn't want bridemaid bouquet and I exchanged it for canopy decorations.

One more suggestion is to ask to move flowers decoration from the wedding site to the dinner site, in this case you haven't to pay 2 times flowers decorations.

They have moved for me centerpieces and flowers aisle decorations from the canopy to the gazebo and with the same flowers I have decorated the two sites.

Hope this can help you

Hugs!

Thank you CriCri! Those are great money-saving ideas! I'm just worried about the reception and ceremony location now since Cecilia said there's no shade during the day. I asked her for suggestions, but no response yet.

Wow!

Thank you for the responses everyone!  I am so excited! 87 days away, and I will be at the resort in just 83!!!

So those of you who chose to switch from the complimentary to the ultimate package, did you get the credit for the complimentary wedding and then just pay the additional or was it the total cost that's listed on the website?

I feel like I owe you all something :-)

Thanks Again!

Has anyone had their wedding at the Ballroom Terrace (outside) during the day or evening? If so, could you please send me pictures and your overall thoughts about the location? Cecilia recommended that area to me for my daytime cocktail hour and reception area. I only saw one pic, and very hard to tell if it's got a nice ocean view, how large it is, etc. Any info would be appreciated!

I'd like to see them too! Have any of you looked at uploaded pictures on tripadvisor? Although they are more travel pictures they still Include a lot of the wedding locations and you can kind of get an idea to how it looks.

  • 4 weeks later...

Hello ladies,

I have a date on hold for secrets maroma and have to book this week or I will loose. Ilet a reservation go for turks and caicos because we decided costs would just be too much for guests and preferred an adults only resort anyway. I have not had luck connecting with the WC and have only been communicating with a travel agent so far. my TA was actually there last week! This is one of the only resorts that will do a legal wedding on our preferred date which falls on a Sunday.  we are also waiting to hear confirmation that loc cabos marquis would do a legal sunday as well and will book asap.

This site has been helpful all around, but can any of you share a timeline or detailed process of the planing and arrangements with the WC?  I'm also interested in getting more specifics on costs, if you don't mind sharing please- looking for info about budget,  xtras, any add ons, also, are you able to change the menu options at all? what is your total like so far?

also, the civil process and making it legal there. What was the blood test process like there? I am sooo nervous about? did you have to go off site?  were you able to do it at the resort? I read conflicting info on secrets site about how many days you must be there 3 business days not including day of travel but also saw 4??

Any other advice, tips info would be great!

Does anyone have photos of the reception venues and options for actual set up that you can share?

Thanks!

I am in the process of planning. I will be getting married May 23, 2014. So far I have selected the ceremony and reception space, and have added a bonfire the night before. I haven't made any other choices yet. It's hard to get in touch with the WC (in my case Cecilia), but she eventually gets back to me. I hear the closer to the date, the better at answering she gets, which makes sense.

I am not getting legally married there, however. I will be getting legally wed here in Maryland a week before, and then doing the symbolic ceremony at SMB.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
