First off, thank you ladies for everything you have posted.  This has made me feel better about my decision.  I have been with my future husband 15 years already, we met when we were kids, so coming to SMB Nov 3-10 was my Annivresary gift.  I had no idea until last week that our luxury vacation was going to turn into my wedding!  Nov 7, 2013 is the big day!  Just a little more than three months away!  I thought it was a blessing that SMB was going to be able to take us!  I thought I might have to find a different place in Playa!  Valeria has done a pretty good job as far as correspondence goes. I'll admit I am now concerned that she hasn't gotten back to me since I filled out the questionnaire and I only have my spot reserved until Friday.  I

My wedding party is going to be really small, maybe even just the two of us, but my instincts tell me it could be up to 10 people.  So my idea is to just have a small reception/dinner at one of the restaurants so I was hoping to get a few of my other questions and concerns out of the way so I can plan accordingly, I can't believe I will be there in about 100 days!  Time is already starting to fly by!

1.  Are there any restaurants that have a good view of the ocean?  According to the map Oceana perhaps?

2.  I'm concerned that there won't be anyone qualified to do my hair which I will definitely need.  I am half African American and I have type 4 curly hair that I may want to have flat ironed for the evening.   If no one is qualified or comfortable doing my kind of hair, is there a salon in Playa that can?

3.  I am still waiting on Valeria to let me know what ceremony venues are available as well during my time slot.  If the beach isn't available, what do you ladies feel are the next best options.  I think this will determine my shoe purchase as well.

I know I will have a lot more questions as time goes on so I thank you all in advance for any advice you may offer.

Best,

Melissa

Congratulations Melissa!!!  This site is absolutely super helpful!!!  So our wedding hasn't happened yet so I can't answer all your questions, but I wanted to say that I have Blanca written down as a good hair person at their salon.  I have hair that can be rather difficult as well so I am planning to do a test with her on Tues when we arrive to make sure that we are on the same page before the big day.  Not sure if that is an option for you.    Happy Planning!!!

Unfortunately, I am not!  I am going to go in blind!  :-)  Well kind of blind, one of my bridesmaids actually went there for work a few months ago (How lucky is she!  She gets to travel to beautiful resorts and be PAID!!) and while she was there she and her coworkers took pictures and asked around.  They came back and said out of all the Secrets resorts that they toured that Maroma Beach was by FAR their favorite and absolutely the best one to get married at.  I think they toured 6 properties in the area and they all agreed that SMB was the best.

I had no idea that my dream vacation to Secrets Maroma Beach was going to turn into my wedding until a few days ago!  I'm getting married to the love of my life(after 15 years) on the afternoon of November 7, 2013. I have already been in contact with Valeria and she has been quite attentive already. I have sent the questionnaire back and we will see what I get to do. I just want an ocean view! We just told our families, but we think our audience will be 10 or less.

I'm sure I'll have a lot of questions, but right now I'm trying to figure out a budget so I'm wondering what extras are really worth it. And as far as ceremony set up goes, is it worth it to bring some things yourself such as gazebo linens and chair ties, etc. Thank you in advance.

Hi Melissa! I am also getting married on November 7th.  Send me your email address! I'd love to compare notes.  Congrats!!

Hi Melissa

for my wedding we were only in 10 as your wedding.

I choose the new beach canopy  for the ceremony and the wedding gazebo for the dinner.  It's fantastic have a big round table under the wedding gazebo for the reception, I asked to move flowers arrangments and chairs sashes from the canopy to the wedding gazebo so it was well decorated.

As regard the hairdress, I suggest you to take with you some pictures that you like and take an appointment with the spa a couple of day before the wedding. I have done the hairdress and make up trial as soon as I arrived in the resort so I've seen immediatley that they result was very nice and I felt better.

If new canopy is alrady booked, you can ask to change the wedding time or you can ask to have the old canopy that  is smaller and isn't a stable structure.

Happy planning!

Have you girls seen this??  Valeria sent it to my travel agent when we were finalizing the contract and reserving locations for the ceremony & reception.  Hopefully it will answer your location questions.  If you need me to email it, let me know....or just pay the $30.  It's totally worth it!
Hello I am new to site and will have my wedding at SMS in 2015. I was wondering if you could send me the ppt you have of the venues. Here is my email baezsolano@yahoo.com

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
