We are doing our ceremony and reception at the gazebo, but having cocktail hour on the beach.  We're also planning on doing the beach bonfire the night before the wedding.

We are using Juan for our photos.  I had the same experience as bpokatie.  I contacted him independently not knowing for sure at the time that he was the resort photographer.  He sent me the Secrets photo package list.  We are upgrading to the 3 hour package with the cd of all the photos.  He was great in helping me pick the package.  He was totally on board with my ideas for the schedule of photos for the day and didn't push for more than I needed.  He also said he was available on our wedding day and has us booked so he personally, rather than one of his team members, will be our photgrapher.  I'm so excited to have him as our wedding photographer!

Thanks everyone for answering my questions! You guys are making it much easier on me. It takes a little bit sometimes for Cecilia to get back to me and sometimes she forgets, lol. But she is really nice and I know she is busy. Does anyone know if you get the printing rights if you get a photo package from Juan? I am considering just getting the package 1 but I am confused why the next one up has negatives on it. I'm worried I won't be able to print the photos. I am so excited to hear you can make reservations in the restaurant but my fiancé thinks we will have more than 20 people now. Well I guess we can all go to dinner in smalll groups. It is not ideal but, I am thinking we will all meet up after dinner in the nightclub anyway.

I think you will have to purchase the negatives to have the printing rights. I believe i read on this forum that they are $15 per photo and they are photos that he chooses, not you. So it may be better to upgrade your pic package so that you can be sure to get the printing release and negatives included, plus you will be sure to get some of the better photographs.

I am getting married April 29.

I have met Cecilia and did a site visit in Aug. I also visited Grand Velas (just south of SMB). I am excited for the wedding.

I am using Planner 1 for MANY things (add ons).  I am having my rehearsal dinner on Saturday outside, but my wedding reception in the ballroom.

I am bringing a lot of stuff down, but also using the resort for many things. I am having private mexican buffet poolside for rehearsal dinner-with slideshow set up outside and mariachi band.  For wedding ceremony, beach. Cocktail hour, beach. Reception, ballroom. I am using the resort DJ for the wedding reception and having Planner 1 come in to decorate the ballroom. I am having a photobooth come in the night of the reception to make a photobooth scrapbook- Love the Booth in playa del carmen.

I am having welcome bags delivered to everyone's rooms with personalized cinch sacks, personalized chapsticks, hand sanitizer, personalized bottle openers, pepto tablets, aloe vera 2 oz bottles, 2 oz sunblock, emergenC vitamin packet, ....I think that is it. :)

If anyone has any questions feel free to message me.

Also, any April Brides out there?

Oh yeah, I am using Juan. I did a personal 5 hr package and he (or probably an assistant) is also coming for rehearsal dinner and beach bonfire nights. I made sure that HE will come for the wedding, but I don't really care about the other two nights. He is giving me ALL printing rights of all photos, but I do not want any printed photos so they will be edited on CDs.

Does anyone have any thought on what might happen if someone *tried* to bring a child or possibly 2 children to a wedding at the resort? The children are 2 yrs old and an infant. We have a married couple (very close family member of my fiance....like really close) coming to the wedding and reception, but they are staying in a villa with some other guests. I am sooooo worried that they will show up at the resort with their kids. They DO know that absolutely no children are allowed at the resort (and that we didn't want children at the wedding which is why we chose this place). We keep telling them, but they are sort of playing dumb about it every time it comes up. It's also on our wedding website. And literally we have told them probably 8 times or more. Every time we tell them, they act like they have never heard this before! This probably sounds really crazy but I just have a feeling that they are going to try to bring the kids to the wedding (which we don't want to attend, obviously lol). We love the little ones, but they just aren't invited to this! Does anyone have any thoughts on what would happen if they showed up at the resort with a child? This situation is so awkward and I am just at a loss.

According to the FAQ's on Juan's website, you will receive the printing rights with any photos chosen in your package.  It also says you choose your pictures.  I plan on confirming this with him as our wedding gets closer just to be sure.  Here is the link to the FAQ's:  http://juanphotos.com/faqs.php

I read those. But I also read a review written by someone who used him and said they were not able to choose their photos. To correct myself, I believe it was the additional photos that they wanted (that weren't included on the CD) that were $15 each. The reviewer said something like they felt that the photographer left the best pictures off of the CD so they had to purchase the ones that they really wanted. It may or may not be accurate. I'm just saying that it will be worth looking into for whoever is worried about something like that. It does make sense that the photo release would be given if the photos are given on a CD.

We are probably going to use Juan and just upgrade the photo package to one with more pictures. I think we will still only keep him for 3 hours though to keep the cost down.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
