We returned from our wedding / honeymoon on 11/13/11 and the entire experience was totally awesome!!! I can't say enough about how awesome the service was all over the resort. I'll try to write a full review later but wanted to come on and reaffirm that you all have totally made the right choice choosing this place. Hubs and I were so happy and relaxed the entire time there. Cecelia also rocks so no worries about late emails, she'll totally make your day special.

Also ideeli.com has bridal looking shoes for sale today and you guys should totally check it out if you haven't found your perfect shoes yet. They have Badgley Mischka's starting at like 49.99!!!

If you're not already an ideeli member here's a link to join http://www.ideeli.com/invite/adfaircloth06 and here's the link to the Stiletto sale http://www.ideeli.com/events/66158/latest_view. I'm super jealous cause I totally paid like $200 for the same shoes.

Hey all new brides/brides to be.
I'm getting married at Secrets Maroma Beach next summer and am now starting to think about details. We're having a smaller wedding as people are traveling from Australia to attend. There are only 13 people plus my fiance and I and was wondering if anyone else has had a similar sized wedding and could offer me some tips.
We're doing the cocktail hour and dinner reception, but it seems silly to get a dj for just 15 people. Any advice would be appreciated!

Hi KristinaLilly! I'm also having a smaller wedding with around 16 people. We thought it would be silly to get a dj also. We've decided to tell people to meet up at the lobby bar, or the night club on the resort. We also decided to just go with the complimentary wedding package and not have a reception or cocktail hour. We haven't really worked out the details yet, but we were thinking about reserving an area at one of the restaurants or let our guest eat where they want and just meet up after dinner.

Thanks for the advice bpokatie! I'm surprised by how many people have 50+ guests attending. We're just having immediate family & a couple close friends. Are you planning on doing out of town bags? I'm finding it hard to edit down some of these wedding ideas to those that are appropriate for a smaller wedding.

You're Welcome! We're having immediate family and close friends too. I don't think we are going to do the out of town bags. I keep going back and forth on that one though. I did make up a brochure on vistaprint.com that some people are calling a "prewedding packet" on here, and I'm going to send it to everyone who is going a few weeks before we leave. I got most of the my ideas for that on this website. The majority of the people that are going with us has never been on vacation in a different country, or has even been on a plane. So I just explained what to expect, what to bring and pack, what's included in our travel package, and a thank you note. Are you making one? Oh, and i also bought hand fans to place out on the chairs during the ceremony. But so far that is the only think I really have planned cheesy.gif

  • 1 month later...

My fiance and I have just decided to get married at SMB on Sunday 5/27/12! We were originally planning to do a wedding in Jamaica and then scratched that due to not a lot of people wanting to pay to go and other family members not being able to attend. So we started planning a wedding locally and had a venue picked out. Earlier this week we called the venue and they agreed to refund our deposit, we cancelled our apt with our minister and I am just going to trash the STD's that I ordered. We really want to do a beach wedding, and so we are. When it comes down to it, we just have to do what we want! And I am shocked that with only 5 months notice, we have about 15-16 peeps who are saying they will come. 2 are going to book their trips this weekend, and the others I'm not sure. I'm just filling out the Q&A for Cecilia. I'm just so excited right now. I can't wait.

We are planning the free wedding package, but I am almost positive that we will upgrade to the next one up. I just want to wait and see how many people are REALLY going to make reservations. If we have more than 10, we will upgrade and if not we will keep it. We are also doing the ceremony that is not legal to cut costs and hassle. My honey really wanted the legal, but I talked him out of it after the estimates of the wedding kept going up and reading some of the horror stories about it.

I wanted to say hi to all of the brides and I have just finished reading about 50 pages of the thread. Lots of good info, but I am sure to have a lot of questions!

Congrats to all of you! What an exciting time!!

Hey Ladies,

We are putting together our webinar schedule for BDW.  These webinars are great because not only can you get YOUR questions answered but also hear answers to questions from other brides that you may not have even though of :)

Webinars are a great way to not only hear directly from the wedding department but see the wedding packages that they offer, ceremony/reception pics, etc.

I try to only limit the webinars to once every 2 weeks so we of course can not do all resorts.

Please vote on which resorts you would like to have webinars on...you can choose more than 1.

Newbie here - 1st post!  I will also be getting married at SMB later this year.  So excited!  We are doing the free wedding package & are debating whether we want to do it just us or actually invite a handful of guests... on 1 hand its pricey but on the other, its our wedding!  Decisions, decisions... Congrats to all the brides out there!

Hey newbie!  Welcome.  I am a July 2011 bride.  Still trying to figure out how correcting posting to threads works:) To answer your question on who to invite and how small to keep it.  I really wanted a small wedding, but many people who did a small destination had a reception of some kind upon return.  I didn't want that .  I thinks function halls of any kind are over priced and over rated.  So... I just decided to invite pretty much everybody ( Secrets is not a cheap place) and who ever could afford it will come.

I don't know if this helps.  That's just how I decided to do it.  So far, I think we have about 20 for sure, but it's still early.

Nicole

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
