Anyone else having troubling getting in touch with the wedding coordinators at Secrets Maroma?  I recently ditched my travel agent since she was of no help and caused more of a headache than anything (and tried to over-overcharge us big time!) and booked our own travels/resort stay.  My agent was working with Cecilia for my wedding on March 10th, 2012.  I emailed Cecilia over 2 weeks ago for a confirmation that our wedding date & time was reserved/confirmed and have no heard a word back.  I emailed Valeria as well yesterday and have not heard back from her either.  I have wedding invitations wedding to go out and a photographer waiting to be booked.  I just want to know if I'm the only one that's not getting through to the resort. :(

I got married May 5th,

Initially i had some troubles getting my dates confirmed, i think its just because we have just a sense of urgency and trust me Cecilia is a one woman circus and runs it well...........

But you have to kinda nag her sometimes, she has to email you a contract saving your date, you sign it and scan it and email it back, you then have to send her a deposit depending on what wedding package you have picked.  she cannot save you day until she receives your contract and deposit, she will put on hold on that date for quite a while as you sign contract and send deposit.

I would send an email a day until i got an answer, she gets TONS of email and if you sent if two weeks ago, its buried by now....

I would also call, I did.  they both speak pretty good english.

When the resort answers, they will answer in spanish, but just ask to talk with Cecilia and they will put you through to her....

You have picked the most WONDERFUL place to get married, dont worry they will make sure your wedding is perfect, Cecilia is a perfectionist and loves her job!! She is just sooooooooo busy, and you will see that for yourself once you get there and as a guest you watch her flutter around the resort everyday.....

You made the right choice, but sometimes she doesnt answer right away, Yes there are other resorts that answer you right away, BUT she makes up for it when your wedding gets closer, she does answer you quickly and makes all your demands happen......

Good luck....now worries...woot.gif

Feel free to email me if you have any further concerns

The jungle is a home to these creatures.  They are harmless. Just dont feed them. There was one or two there that hang out on the rocks.  They wont bother you unless you antagonize them.

We found them entertaining, the are so cool, but I can see where some people are freaked out...........LOLjiggy.gif

Everything that NEMMERZ said is correct. I just recently went through that whole process for my May 12, 2012 wedding. Once Cecilia emails you the contract, you have to sign it and send it back to her with a copy of your deposit within a week. That officially saves your date. So if you haven't done that yet, then your date isn't saved yet. I've noticed that Cecilia answers to emails faster if you email her in the beginning of the week. You could also write URGENT in the subject line. This might catch her attention faster. I hope everything works out for you.

Thank you for the reassurance NEMMRZ and bpoKatie. Before we let our travel agent go, she warned me Secrets/Dreams chain altogether were slow at responding and getting wedding details planned...I just didn't realize it would take this long. Perhaps I could re-send my email again as “urgent I'm trying to book Cecilia Rodriguez for my photography and she's patiently waiting to hear back from me. I'm concerned she might be booked for our date before I hear back from the resort.

Also, since Secrets Maroma isn't the cheapest of resorts, have you found that a large portion of your guests are staying at other resorts?  We have 20-25 people approximately attending our wedding. I totally understand financial constraints & couldn't appreciate more people wanting to attend the wedding. So my question would be, if 90% of your guests do not stay at the resort with you, do you have any recommendations on wedding favors? The day before the wedding, my fiance and I were going to do deep sea fishing for the guys and I was going to treat the girls to a day at the spa...then rehearsal and onto dinner. If my wedding party does not stay at resort, they'll have to pay for 2 days of coming onto our resort, which makes me cringe. Also, how would one do wedding favors for the rest of the attendees?? Sounds like gift bags might not be an option when everyone is scattered amongst Cancun.

I'm totally feeling the anxiety from all the added stress but incredibly excited for the big day!

I can see how it can be stressful if people are staying at different resorts. All of my guest are staying with us at SMB so I cannot help you there. Instead of gift bags for the favors, you could try to find something that can be given during your reception or ceremony. Good luck on organizing everything!

  • 2 weeks later...

Our November 6 wedding date is quickly approaching and I hoped some of you who have already been married could give me some input on the following things. Did anyone get to sample the menu before deciding on your final menu choices?

Did anyone buy an upgraded cake choice and if so, did you get a chance to taste or was it the same cake flavor just a prettier version?

If you had a DJ who did you chose and were you able to send a list of songs to them prior to the wedding.

We only have about 15 people coming with us so I don't think we can do the beach bonfire with dinner. So we were thinking of doing the canapes. Did anyone else chose this option? Were the canapes filling or would you suggest booking dinner somewhere first and then just meeting up on the beach for drink and the bonfire.

I think previous reviewers said they had time to pick flowers, etc upon arrival am I remembering correctly?

That's all I can think of for now.  Getting nervous and excited!

Hey Adfaircloth06!

I am getting married October 28th! :) (Orginally going to be April of 2012 but pushed it up so it would be cheaper for guests)

Long story short, I have been planning and talking to Valeria (my coordinator at secrets) for over a year now.

I have asked all of these questions to her.

1. Can we sample the menu? Yes, I asked her to do a full sit down taste test of all the stuff on the gold menu (the one included in the ulitmate wedding package). We are planning that for the 2nd full day we are there.

--We are also sampling all of the cakes (vanilla, tres leches, and chocolate...as well as Red Velvet) She had never heard of it, but told me to send her a recipe and the chef would make it for us to try. If we like it, we are going to go with that.

2. Dj Mannia is the resort DJ that is included in the package. I have contacted him and he said to just get him a list of songs that are must plays and no plays. And he can download the ones he doesnt have.

3. I have 29 guests coming and we are doing a beach bonfire and having drinks served down there. We were quoted $10 p/p for this. The nearest bar is a long way away so I figured it would be worth the money to have a bar for us. We are not serving any food. Beforehand we are planning an "optional" dinner. We were going to do the japense hibatchi resturant but since we have so many people that MAY come we are going to have a private table setup at one of the outside dinner shows that night. We won't know what shows and activities are going on until the end of September Valiera said. So we are deciding what we are doing for dinner at that time.

I am also planning on picking flowers, decor etc etc down there, but I am emailing her pictures of what I think I will most likley go for and getting pricing beforehand so I can prepare myself and keep within budget.

I hope my information helped! Since you are just a little over a week after my wedding I strongly suggest getting in touch with Valeria and Cecila to sett up your taste testings :) So she has plenty of notice!! :)

I am taking a hint from other brides and doing a checklist of things valeria and cecilia need to remember, prices we have talked about, the small details that are important to me. Just so we are all on the same page when  I arrive and have the first sit down with her, and to keep her on track while we are there. I am sure its overkill, but its better to be safe than sorry right? :)

Hope this helped!!

We were married at Secrets last month and overall we were very laid back about the choices so we did not even think about sampling the food before hand. But we were very pleased with the meal, and our guests raved about it. Overall the resort food is amazing, so we were not concerned and just made our selections based on what we felt most people would enjoy.

We did not choose to upgrade our cake, but Cecilia surprised us by giving us beautiful square two tier cake and added flowers that matched our centerpieces all without our asking. It was much nicer than the small round one we were expecting. We went with tres leche, and it was TASTY!

We used the resort DJ and MC, and they were great! We traded out the value of some of the package options that we were not using (hair & makeup, resort photographer) toward the DJ costs so we did not end up paying anything extra for the DJ. We went with the "full service" DJ, so that included the DJ, the MC, and lights for the dance area. I highly recommend this option if you want to have dancing at your reception. The MC was great, he really got all our guests out on the dance floor and having an amazing time. They also had a bubble machine blowing bubbles on the dance floor which was a really cute surprise. We only had 16 guests, but it felt like a big party because of the lights and DJ. The DJ also came to our meeting with Cecilia so he was aware of all our wishes and plans for the ceremony & reception. We also choose to use the sound system for our ceremony so he was at our reception to run the music for our ceremony. He did a flawless job.

We did have the bonfire with bar & canapes the night before our wedding, it was a great night. Everyone went to dinner before hand so it was nice to have little treats available as a light snack. But I am not really sure people ate very much of them. The smores are not really smores, more like little cookie sandwiches. Delicious, but not like smores at all. They do a great job of creating a nice area for your group on the beach, they surround the area with huge white flags and pull up beach chairs in a circle around the fire. They set up a full bar on the beach and have some tall tables were they had the snacks.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
