Hi ladies!

Haven't posted on here for awhile, but I've been following the thread:-)

I feel like I got married soooooo long ago (2008) and things have changed so much since I got married at SMB that I'm not sure how much help I'd be...

However, just thought I'd throw my two cents in on a few things, for that it's worth:-)

When I went, they were totally disorganized, so hopefully this has been sorted out, and it sounds like it has.

(My mom and I went together and they didn't have a room where we could both be in at the same time, but they squished us into the "bridal suite"...which at that point was really just a room where I think they did massages:-)...Anyway, with two blow dryers going in that one room, we blew out the power in the whole salon:-) So they moved my mom to the main area...)

Again, I'm sure that has all been sorted now, but I would suggest you let Cecilia know beforehand what you have in mind, and tell her in the MINUTEST of detail, and then when you get there, go to the spa/salon yourself, talk to the manager there and make sure everything's okay... i.e. don't leave it all to Cecilia...she's busy and can let things slip.

We didn't stay in the honeymoon suite, but friends of ours did!

(Which was kind of funny since they were there for our wedding,lol:-))

Anywaaay, it was GORGEOUS...it was ground level though, so if you don't have a view. But you do have a private swim-out pool. And jacuzzi tub.

We had an ocean-front room on the top level (third floor? fourth? can't remember) because we loved being able to look out at the beach and the ocean, so we preferred our suite.

Either ocean-front or honeymoon suite gtes you into the "preferred club" which I thought was worth it:-)

The honeymoon suite is quite large, so it would be good for getting ready with your bridesmaids and for pictures...

I'd say, if it's in your budget, splurge on it (or at least an ocean-front)...they ARE beautiful.

I also only had 20 people at my wedding (including myself, DH, and our two photogs) and we hired the sound system and hooked my Ipod up to it. We made a playlist ahead of time and used that as our music. I think Simistar hired a DJ and her reception looked like a lot of fun with the a cool floor, lights, and dancing. It's probably "cooler" to hire a DJ but for us we didn't have very many dancers which is why we went the sound system route. You could search on the forum for Simistar's review of her wedding at SMB for more info on "to hire or not to hire a DJ"...she was married at SMB in December also.

Hey Kits!:-)

Yes, we had 24 guests (so 26 incl. us total) and we LOVED having a DJ! But we had some dancers/partiers on our crowd:-) The DJ also helped with some announcing and kept the mood upbeat...

So if you think your crowd isn't really the type, you may be better off with an iPod and speakers.

Plus, my DH and I did a cool first dance and we needed the DJ to be controlling the music for us:-)

And generally, my DH and I did not want to have to worry about the music, we just wanted to relax and have fun...and with our luck, the iPod or speakers would have broken two minutes before our reception started, lol:-)

Haha -- you don't want to ask me about my experience getting my hair done:-)

(Anyone who's read my review -- there's a link to it at the bottom of this post -- knows it was a disaster:-))

I would suggest getting a trial FOR SURE...and if you have any hesitations at ALL about the person doing your hair...i..e she's just not getting it, or you're not entirely happy with it, have a back-up plan! Either know how to do your hair yourself or take the number of a recommended hair stylist (I there's a thread somewhere on that...under the RM Vendors I think...) and call that person if you need to.

I kind of had a bad feeling about the woman who did my hair even during our trial and I should have followed my gut instinct and just have done it myself on my actual wedding day...which is actually what ended up happening, lol:-)

Hey SMB brides!

I have been following for a while, and wanted to be more actively involved since my date is VERY close!

Will any of you be there in early November?

I am relieved to hear many of you have dealt with similar issues like slow responses from Cecilia and inconsistent pricing quotes.

I will certainly be posting info/happy to answer your questions when the time comes!

A few quick questions to throw out there:

- Was the beach bonfire worth the $?  (Was thinking of having after my rehearsal dinner, but with the whole group)...Oh and did anyone do fireworks???

- How did you choose your menus?  (I did get Cecilia to agree I could mix and match from the different menu 'levels')

- Where to buy the actual bags for the OOT bags??

- Did you set up outside activities/excursions for the guests?

Thanks in advance for your input and support!!!   smile03.gif

I chose my menus based upon what I personally like (I have simpler tastes than our guests so I wanted to be darn sure there was SOMETHING I'd like) but otherwise I wanted to please my guests

I bought mine online and they were actually small coolers bags with a design I made/had made for them. I split the bags with another bride on the forum. We still use ours and I'm glad we did it the way we did. Other brides get theirs all over the place, craft stores, online, Target (when they have the $1 bins), etc

I kind of "set-up" our guest's trip to the ruins in Tulum. The ones that went LOVED it and had a great time. They also loved the driver. We did not pay for them but we booked them through the person in the reception area. Due to the fact that the people in the reception area can set pretty much anything up I didn't bother with doing it myself. Plus some people wanted to hang out on the beach while others were sunburned and did not want to do that.

Thanks for your two cents Simister! Yes, I did read your review and it was very helpful!!  I made trial run appointment and also for the wedding day, if I do not like what I see on the trial run, I will cancel and just do it myself.  I think that'll be my plan.

Can't believe it's only 2 weeks away!

I can't believe yours is 2 weeks away too!!! you have to be so excited!!!

Hi Massagegirl!

I have a few questions for you!  Do they have a standard music for the wedding ceremony? Or did you bring yours and they'll play whatever you like for you?

Also was the minister speaking Spanish or can they speak English during the ceremony?

Also, would looove to look at your pictures!!

Hey ReeRee: even though your questions are directed at Massagegirl the minister that did our ceremony spoke English although she was a native Spanish speaker. She had some pretty good one liners, too. The red polyester suit gave some of our guests a laugh but our guests thought the minister was good too.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
