Hi bellajovie,

I too used a travel agent I found through destinationweddings.com and my experience was very good overall. I was contacted quickly by a representative in Wisconsin and she helped us with lots of details and all of our guests travel.

FYI: we did include the $30.00 price guarantee in our deposit pricing to all of our guests, but not sure it was really wasn't worth it. The price didn't go down.

I would strongly recommend you go this route also and let them do all the busy leg work with rates and travel reservations.

Melinda

Hi Bellajovie- I just started using destinationweddings.com and I haven't booked the room/flight yet, so I can't say it's great yet. But my wedding specialist has been able to match the price I found on Orbitz or Cheapcarribean.com and have been pretty quick in giving me the quote. She can offer that $200 resort credit that Orbitz is offering as well. Only thing I am bummed out about is the "book 5 rooms and get the 6th one free" deal. I was hoping to take advantage of that, but apparently, you need to book the 5 rooms all at once and you pay deposit for those 5 rooms on behalf of your guests. Then you will be able to get the 6th room for free. Unfortunately for me, I don't know who can attend just yet, so I can't use this deal... But my reason for signing up with destinationweddings.com was exactly the same as yours, let them handle all the guest bookings, and no fee!! If you have a lot of guests attending, I think using TA is definitely a way to go unless you enjoy planning things.

Thanks everybody for the feedback. I've been looking at destinationweddings.com for a while now...but was a little uncertain. But hearing your responses is definitely helpful! I think I was most concerned about our getting comparable rates. With that said, I feel much better about moving forward with them now and will let you know how things go!

Hey ladies! Welcome to all the new folks :)

I am also using destination weddings. We guaranteed 23 rooms. They will price match any online package and we got the 6th room free option.

Wedding packages - we got the ultimate package and have been able to customize a lot of the options.

We are also getting married at the gazebo - cocktail hour with mariachi band and dj at the reception. I hope dj mannia is one of the resort dj options :)

No preferred club for us, we'll just do a swim out room.

Decor - planning to send Cecilia pics for table decor and I'll choose flowers from the package.

Photography - we're bringing the photographer who did our engagement pics

Btw - I really think our thread rocks!!

I had a TERRIBLE experience with destinationweddings.com! Just awful! I think I wrote about it in the destinationweddings.com thread or in my wedding review thread. I'm happy for the people that have had good experiences with them, but I actually stopped using them half way through the planning b/c my agent was THAT bad. We got much better deals negotiating with the resort ourselves.

Yes, all of your posts are a life saver to me too! What did people do before the internet really?? I think for any TA, it really depends on who you get. I did hear different reviews about destinationweddings.com. I wonder if you don't like the wedding specialist assigned to you, you will be able to request to change to a new person?? Or maybe you are stuck with the person assigned... Anyway, I'm planning on booking my room/flights today, so will update you ladies once I do!!

BTW, I just sent my Q&A form to Cecilia, and asked if there was any other wedding on my date and she said so far it's just mine, but she also mentioned that they can do upto 3 weddings a day. I thought it was upto 2 weddings a day.... Did they just change this policyhuh.gif

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
