A fake ring for now?

Recommended Posts

So, we are getting married May 19th and moving to a new state shortly after. Both my FI and I are pretty much living paycheck to paycheck and we still haven't gotten our wedding bands yet!

Question: What do you think about the idea of getting me a "fashion" wedding band (they sell them at Dillards and they are pretty) for now, and then us buying my REAL ring after we are settled into our new house? It looks just like a wedding band, but made of cubic zirconia (sp?).

Reason I'm asking is the ring I am looking at will be about $1,500 and I am nervous about taking it to Mexico anyhow without getting it insured and all.... I don't mind sporting a fake for a while till we get on our feet. What do you think abou this?

honestly, i see no problem at all with this. I told FI the same thing. I don't want to have to worry about buying the band I really want now. I'd rather wait till later when and not rush. (I know its silly, I have plenty of time to shop). I know a ton of ppl who don't have the same rings as they had when they got married. Some upgraded, or like several of my aunts and including my parents, their "real" rings were stolen.

I say go for it!

The "fakes" look so good now, that it's tempting not to just forget the real thing all together. I say definitely go "fake"...it not worth the financial stress to splurge on the real thing. I'm sure you're the only one that will know the difference anyway :)

Heck yeah, go for the fake. I may do the same. With the money FI recently spend on the engagment ring & honeymoon and money we've both spent on other wedding expenses, I don't want to be in debt when we return from the wedding! I agree that nobody will really know. Although it's fun, picking bands we'll keep for life seems like another chore we don't need right now!!!

A ring is a ring, it's the marriage that counts. Yes we all want those big beautiful rings but in actually it's not what matters. I say get the fake until you two are on our feet, have your house and your wedding paid for. Those things are about building your life together. Then when things are where they should be get a real wedding band, maybe make it special say on an anniversary or something. I've seen some fake rings in fact Jareds had a couple of fake center stones in a couple of their high end rings (you pick the center stone from loose diamonds) well if they didn't say anything to me I would have thought they were real.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
