My friends did this and ended up living in St. thomas for 2 years. They loved it and now they are parents to a little one and own a house in FLA and say those two years were great even though they were apart from friends and family. People went down to visit... I say go for it!

after i hit reply i realized that i once wrote a thread just like this. FI wanted me to move to AZ, when my family - that i'm really close to - is in MN.

In the end we moved, and I bawled my eyes out for 2 weeks straight but it's been a great experience for us together as a couple. plus if you know it's temporary i would think that would make it easier

Oh girl, I didn't even read the whole thread before I've had to respond. I 100% think you need to go for it! One year is nothing in the grand scheme of things. Plus, it you've never been away from your support system, you will be amazed at how much inner strength and growth you will gain.

My hubby and I have been discussing moving to St. Thomas in 2010. I'm all for it but he is unsure. Here is a good website I found about moving to USVI:

USVI Moving Center - The Ultimate Resource for Relocating to and Living in the Virgin Islands
I just saw this thread and was going to post the same exact link as Kristen did. It's probably the best source for information about living in the Virgin Islands that you'll find anywhere.

I've been going to St. Thomas every year for 13 years. My fiance and I have definite plans to retire there in about 6 years. I wish I had the opportunity to have done something like your fiance wants to do when I was younger, but, then again, I would have had to worry about a job. Now when we go we can just enjoy everything the islands have to offer, and only work if we want to. HA, like that's going to happen!!!

The best thing about moving there is you are still in the United States. The worst is that it's harder to get things you're accustomed to and they will be more expensive if you find them.

Do it!!! Don't spend years regretting the decision not to.

Just do it - If I had the opportunity I would move like a shot lol I used t joke that if FI got posted to Cyprus I'd marry him and move there lol He got posted there for 7 months I nearly died!! lol

Life is short chick and if you can afford to do it I say jump at the chance. Your family aren't going anywhere and you will have to cut those strings sometime xx

I can totally understand how you feel about leaving your family. I just came back from visiting my bf in Chicago. Every time I visit I think about moving there. He lives on Michigan Ave & uses public transportation & I think the whole city is sooo cool! (literally this time of the year) I just love the big city life! It gets me thinking about moving. FI would totally do it but I think about leaving my family. Crazy because they all fly free!

After reading through this thread I agree with the girls! We only have this one life to live! elefant.gif Go for it!

It would be such an amazing experience!

You have inspired me to rethink my idea of moving somewhere new.....

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
