RTB Sold Out April 3 - 11?? AHH!

Recommended Posts

I just had some guests try to book for our wedding at the RIU Tropical Bay during the week of April 3 -11, 2009 and the TA said that the hotel has put a "stop sale" on for that time so they aren't taking any more reservations!

Has this happened to any other brides? What's been yoru experience - do you think rooms be released at later date or are we S.O.L.?

We sent out our save the dates this past April, thank god, becuase the only people now that are able to go to our wedding are the ones that book with in a month of us sending out the STDs. I'm a little stressed because I know there were quite a few people that wanted to go but were waiting until Nov-Dec to book seen as thats still 4+ months away....aaahh! Who knew it would sell out so fast?

This happened to us at ROR with two different guests and it sent me into a tizzy!!

My MOH was booking in early October and we had a stop sell as well. Luckily for us, there was still airspace on our flight so we had to put her in our room for the week. My TA has a note in to Sunquest that if a room comes available to book her into her own room.

The others guests were from Calgary so they chose a different tour operator than Sunquest and managed to get a room and booked on our flight as well.

Get your TA to look at a bunch of other tour operators to see if any of them have rooms available. If your guests want to go back enough, they will consider this option (even if the flights are different).

We ended up having a couple guest have to fly from Edmonton to Toronto and then to Jamaica, rather than straight from Calgary like everyone else. And they are arriving 3 days after the rest of the group.

I had emailed my TA asking if we were running out of space so that I could tell people I knew wanted to come to hurry up and book. She didn't get back to me and then last week we found out they had put a stop sale on.

The TA said that they can't know that information ahead of time, the hotel or carrier will just do it without any warning (there are still seats available on the plane from Calgary just no hotel rooms).

Just wondering if anyone knows if this is true or are they just saying that to cover for themselves? Any TA's reading this - can you find out if the packages are being booked up?

Thanks everyone, I really appreciate the respones!

Thanks TA Maureen!

I actually meant to ask if its possible for a travel agent to find that information out about a resort not specifically about RTB for me...because I assumed they were sold out! So sorry if you went to any trouble to look that info up :)

But thanks again - thats really good news to hear!

Hi,

This also just happened to us. All packages out of Halifax, NS were sold out. Two of our guests had to fly to Montreal and TO to fly to Jamaica. I could not believe it sold out so quickly. It is unfortunate because we did have a couple of others who were thinking of going but probably won't pay extra to fly out of another province. We did book back this summer though so most of our friends and family have already booked.

We're getting married April 09, 2009 at Riu TB and we were told in September that the hotel was booked solid by our TA. Luckily we're not having too many people come with us and they had already booked with our group rate in July. We were originally with Signature but they dropped all their packages/flights to Jamaica in April, so now we're with Sunquest. I had pre-warned people to book early and forget about "last minutes"...

I really didn't think it would get booked up until, maybe December. Because there is only one flight a week from Calgary we thought the plane would get filled up long before the hotel.

I think we've got it all figured out now though. Any new guest wanting to book are flying out of Toronto...with Signature. We're with Sunquest out of Calgary but Signature was still booking packages.

We've got 25 guests plus us booked right now. There were a few people who would be going if they could fly out of Calgary but I don't expect them to fly to TO first. At this point I don't expect any more guests unless they release some rooms at the last minute.

Anyways I'm done stressing about it now. The "need to be there" people are booked. I can return to spending hours researching hair, jewellery, gifts, flowers...all that fun stuff! :)

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
