Do any past brides have a picture of how the italian resaurant was set up for the dinner? Was it one long table or a bunch of smaller tables? (I have approx. 20-30 ppl comming) Need to decide on centerpieces and whatnot just not sure how many tables I need to make them for.

Hi Dallace,

Here are a couple pictures of our reception in the Italian restaurant. As you can see, they had the table set up in a "U" shape. We had 27 people and it worked perfectly! We didn't bring any centerpieces, and they certainly weren't missed. The tables were decorated beautifully with candles, and we put the bouquets on the table for flowers.

We had our cake cutting and first dance right in the middle of the "U" which worked really well!

One thing to consider is that the walls in the Italian restaurant are bright green - which worked perfectly for us because that was our wedding color! However it may clash with other colors.

Hi ladies,

6 months to go until my fiance and I get married at Sandos (June 29)!!! I'm wondering where we should be in our planning process.   I'm starting to feel a little behind. We are using a travel agent and sent our save the dates.  We have about 65 ppl booked.  Any advice as to when to send out invitations? Also, has anyone already planned the details for the wedding as far as flowers, ceremony decor, cake, etc.? or should that all be done when we meet with Lupita in June?

Any photographer suggestions? Pricing?

Feeling quite overwhelmed :/

Hi there!

I am getting married at Sandos in 16 weeks and I haven't really done too much planning, so don't feel behind!!!  I just sent out my wedding invitations over Christmas.. I know I am pretty late with getting those out but not the end of the world, I guess.  I have been told to send out invitations at least 6 months prior for destination weddings....I guess it is really up to you. I only have about 20-30 people max coming  to mine.

Over the holidays I spent time picking out my flowers, etc., from the packages Lupita sent me. So pretty soon I will be emailing her with my choices.   Lupita sent me a flower booklet to look at so you can ask her for that.  I sent Lupita a picutre of a boquet I really like but her florist said it would be $200 as the flowers weren't in season there.  So be careful what you pick...just make sure you ask!  I am going with gerber daisies as they are not an extra cost.  I think there are only a couple different choices for the cake..- again, just ask Lupita..I think there are only 2-3 different choices.  I am sure they could make you whatever you want, but it would probably cost extra. I am just going with the vanilla cake.

My girlfriend got married at the Reef Playacar last year and she used Sian Photography for her wedding. They are in Playa Del Carmen.  Her photos turned out amazing! However, you have to pay an additional $77 for a day pass for external vendors and now I see the resort is charging and extra $300 as well for outside photographer because they have one at the resort.  I am sure the photographer from the resort would be fine but I really liked how my friend's pictures turned out and wanted to use the same guy.  I was lucky in that Lupita said she will waive the $300 fee for me because I booked my photographer before this new policy came in place.

Anyways, I only haev 16 weeks to go and I am very overwhelmed too! So much to think of!! Let me know how your planning goes!  I am still pondering with the ideas of what to do after the dinner....

You made me feel much better! I looked into the resort photographer but it seems to be somewhat expensive for what you get! Do you mind me asking what your photographer is charging? We are thinking of going with a base package and gathering photos from our guests.  We are definitely going to rent out the disco after dinner.  It just seems to be the easiest way to keep everyone together and have a somewhat 'traditional' reception feel.  My fiance's parents were able to visit the resort and really liked the disco, so fingers crossed!!

Hi Chrisanthi,

When it comes to decor, flowers, cake etc. Lupita can send you the files that show what is available but you do not need to tell her ahead of time what your choices are.  Bc when you meet with her the day after your arrival she will go over all that with you - even if you have already sent her that info.  There is no need in stressing about all this stuff.  Its a destination wedding remember.....its supposed to be stress free bc they take care of all of that for you.  You plan and choose everything from your colours, to your cake, decorations, ceremony location etc at your meeting with Lupita.  You just need to show up....lol

My wedding at Sandos is 15 days away and I am not stressed at all.  People try to plan plan plan, but really how can you plan so much when you arent even there yet?  Just relax and enjoy your time with the wedding planning that you can take care of at home.  Like OOT bags or invitations, etc.... Let the resort take care of the rest for you. This way you wont get stressed.  Bc what you choose now, may not even be what you want in 6 months from now.  We are all constantly changing our minds so dont put yourself thru that if you can avoid it.  I know I have changed my mind on my wedding dress 2 times, so I can only imagine what it would have been like if I had pre chose my decor, flowers, etc. Just try to enjoy the time you have and try not to stress ok?  In the end it will be perfect Im sure........

Good luck and happy planning!

Hi,

THe photographer that I went with had three different package options..... The first option was around $950 for 2 hours of photography with you and groom.. The second option (the one I went with) is around $1400 - this give you 4 hours of photography and includes family in the photos too. Not sure what the 3rd option was.... It seems a bit pricey for me and not really how much I wanted to pay, but after I seen my friend's photos, I really wanted to stick with his photographer.  Pictures are really important to me and I don't have anyone in the family with a really good camera to take pics, so this is why I went with the package!

I ran into some old friends over the holidays and they actually stayed at Sandos this last April and they said the resort was amazing too! I am very happy with choosing this resort :)

Thanks so much for the reassurance.  What are you including in your OOT bags? Are you assembling them before you head down there?

Hey Ladies,

We are putting together our webinar schedule for BDW.  These webinars are great because not only can you get YOUR questions answered but also hear answers to questions from other brides that you may not have even though of :)

Webinars are a great way to not only hear directly from the wedding department but see the wedding packages that they offer, ceremony/reception pics, etc.

I try to only limit the webinars to once every 2 weeks so we of course can not do all resorts.

Please vote on which resorts you would like to have webinars on...you can choose more than 1.

    • I have stayed at Dreams La Romana and Dreams Dominicus.  The two resorts are very different in style and decor. A few comparison points are below and fact sheets are attached for both.   Both resorts are approx 45 minutes from Punta Cana airport, close proximity to Saona Island, Catalina Island and Altos de Chavon. Top championship golf courses in the Caribbean are just minutes away including Teeth of the Dog, Dye Fore, The Links and La Estancia – all designed by world-famous Pete Dye. Restaurants are similar at both resorts.  Both offer the Explorers Club for Kids.  Dreams Dominicus  Brand new resort and in 2016 488 rooms (however additional construction was underway) More contemporary style & decor Good beach area Rooms were very nice Preferred Club located in main lobby and adjacent to main pool & beach front Food was good Center plaza area with nighttime entertainment Main lobby is small, but outdoor bar off lobby is nice Dreams La Romana Originally built in 2003 & opened as Dreams La Romana in 2008 756 rooms Recently renovated and new preferred club adults only lounge & pool added  Rooms are more traditional Caribbean decor Grounds are very lush and tropical Good beach area food was good    Dreams Dominicus fact sheet.pdf Dreams La Romana fact sheet.pdf
