A suggestion to go along with that is to use an old bag that you don't want to keep, or a collapsable (sp?) one so that you won't have to pay for it to come back. You can just leave it there for the maids, or fold it & put it in your other suitcase. I am assuming you will not be bringing back most of your wedding stuff that is in the bag (OOT bag fillers, etc).

Oh, can't believe I didn't mention this since I worked for the airlines. If you were to get your friend to take your bag, then when you go to check in you can ask to be put on the upgrade list. Most airlines will take some miles from you if you get confirmed off the list. But, if you mention that it's your wedding/honeymoon and it would be nice to be in first while asking to be put on the upgrade list, 90% of the agents will probably just change your seat to first w/ out charging you or taking your miles. Just a tip!

  • 2 weeks later...

I debated with this and figured FC is definitley worth it due to charges for and # of bag allowances and for me ....the most important part was the dress. I don't want anyone squishing it. So, I booked our flights with cash and used miles to upgrade. I will say if you are goign to use miles, sooner is better than later. In 1 week all 1st class seats on my dates were gone. I had to move my return date.

if you're like me and ZONK out on the plane soon as you sit down its not worth it. my rule is if its cross atlantic or pacific its worth it. or if you are loaded (like me... jk hehe)

otherwise save the mooola and put it to something more memorable or worthwhile. it is nice but not that nice that you cant enjoy another extra couple days somewhere at a htoel or something

Personally, I don't think it is worth it for short flights. I've flown Delta and Mexicana to Mexico and the 1st class didn't look that great - even worse than some flights to NY from LA. I'd definitely look into reviews for first class for the planes you are taking and also maybe seatguru for the layout/type of seats. I would rather save the miles and use them towards a longer trip. We used miles to business class tickets to Lima, Peru - 60k each on American. We flew on LAN Peru and they didn't have a separate 1st class, so basically business class was 1st class, and the seats were the lay-flat sleeping type seats. For an 8+ hour flight, with great seats like that, it was much more worth the miles. Now I'm trying to save for SE Asia or somewhere like that - almost 2x the miles needed, but also 2x as long, so absolutely necessary for a 6'6" husband.

You can always try to upgrade at the gate, the day of travel. We were able to up-grade for $70 per ticket.

I plan to do that every time I fly from now on!
Ohhh, what a fab deal! I wonder, since Martin's parents paid for our flight with miles, if we'd be able to ask at the gate if we could pay (cash/credit) to upgrade if they had room? Is this how it's done? Just kind of play dumb?

I am such a sucker for things like first class and room upgrades rolleyes.gif

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
