I voted for Obama because I agree with him on the main issues (health care, early education, the war, etc). But I'm EXCITED about him because I see his potential to be a great leader for our generation and our country. I believe he is a very honorable man who ran an honorable campaign. I feel very disappointed by the kind of campaign McCain ran.

I recently read "whatever it takes" about jeffry canada & the harlem children's zone. it was pretty inspiring. and also made it so clear how important early education is.

i was very happy to see that obama supports spreading this program into more cities.

When i first heard about this I googled "harlem childrens zone" to see what else I could find out. I saw a lot of people saying things like, "I don't want my tax payer dollars going to pay someone to read to a kid."

This is where I think a societal perspective really makes a difference. If we are willing to fund programs that really help kids succeed, then down the road these kids are paying taxes instead of living on welfare. also, spending money now on good programs will cut down on future law enforcement costs.

I understand the idea of, "it's my money, i worked hard for it & i want to keep it." I'm a big time saver. I'm sure everyone can see from the way I planned my wedding I don't like spending my money. But, I'm happy to support programs that really will help people and improve our society.

Morgan, I used to work for a group called Fight Crime: Invest in Kids and we argued just what you said: if you invest in kids early, you cut crime later. And when you reduce crime, you save money. For every dollar spent now on quality early education, you can save $17 down the road in decreased crime, welfare, law enforcement, and increased tax revenues. So really it's fiscally conservative!

Obama has pledged to make early education one of his top priorities.

With tears running down my cheeks I voted for Obama (and some extremely crucial state measures here in Cali).

 

This is an amazing day. Win, lose, or draw, the sheer thought that millions of people of varied races and social standings have united to support a person of color...well, it makes me think more highly of my nation. A few decades back Obama wouldn't have been able to sit next to Biden in a restaurant, let alone run alongside him as candidate for President of the United States. The very possibility is huge in terms of where we are as a nation.

 

McCain is a likeable guy and I don't outright hate him like some people I know, I just disagree with almost everything he stands for so I could never vote that way.

 

Be proud of whomever you support. This has been a civil thread so we can leave the fear of being attacked for our views out of it...sometimes just suggesting it may happen can start it up

Health care and education are two very important issues to me, I would love to see some sort of universal health care plan in effect. I honestly gave McCain careful consideration, but I really think Obama has some great ideas and I think he is exactly what this country needs right now.

Okay I guess I am another outcast on this thread... I am proud to vote for McCain in this election. I do not agree with Obama's "We need to spread the wealth policies" - I work extremely hard for my money and I do not believe the solution to our problems is "spreading the wealth." I also believe in McCain's views on immigration, abortion, foreign policy, healthcare, and taxes. I do not believe more government is the solution to our problems...

Anyway - let's just hope whoever wins does a great job and does their best to get us out of this recession. Also I pray that each canidate keep their word if they get into office.

Also - people in other countries - please realize that what you read and hear is extremely liberally biased - you really do not get both sides of the story and it truly makes me sad - because everyone should be able to hear both sides and decide for themselves

Anyway, I'll stop gabbing - all in all, I am very proud to be an American!

Both DH & I voted for Obama. It was a huge decision for DH to vote Democratic since he never goes that direction. I was very suprised when he showed my his ballot. Keeping fingers crossed
