Post here if you are getting married in Jamaica

Recommended Posts

they do everything for you there. you won't get your marriage certificate right away. we got married in October and just got our certificate last week finally, but they did give us a copy of the register to take with us so that we at least had proof. it just won't work for changing your name. but yes - definitely get certified documents that have to stay in Jamaica with the Registrar. we both had our original divorce decree that we left there, and just kept certified copies.

Oh, and this is probably a dumb question but we do not have to get a marriage license here in WI correct? They will do all the paper work in Jamaica?

It depends on what resort you will get married at. All we did was sent our certified birth certificates and that was it. They never asked us to show originals. Also we got this piece of paper that was part of marriage certificate and I changed my drivers license and few other cards without any problems. Clerks sometimes don't know the difference LOL

For anyone getting married at the RIU i asked if the small birth certificate was ok to use instead of having to order the long form and keisha said yes.... she responded by saying

The short form birth certificate is acceptable, you can send your documents via registered mail.

also if you need to get somethign notarized and dont want to pay $ for it you can go to your local MP and they will do it for free!!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
