Post here if you are getting married in Jamaica

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

so we are am planning to get married in Negril, in may 2012. hope its not to early to start planning .woot.gif I live in Chicago. I have consulted with a bunch of hotels but the price just seem to be getting higher and higher. we are intending on staying at the Riu in Negril, but having a wedding there for about 50-60 is seeming more and more expensive. after getting details the party will have to end at about 10pm and not offer anything other than wine.

anyone marry outside a resort?? i would like any information.????

thanks

I am planning on getting married hopefully Feburary 8th 2012, I am still trying to decide on a location for the wedding! Torn between Iberostar rose hall beach and Secrets St.James. I have stayed at both in the past and actually got engaged at Secrets!

Any suggestions?

Hello everyone, and happy planning to you all. I am up to my neck with things to get done cheesy.gif I plan on having my wedding in Montego Bay Jamaica soon but I am yet to find a caterer to do my cake. I don't want it to be tacky so I am looking for a really good and creative person.

I decide to use a Small Villa/ Guest House instead of a hotel because I find they try to please their customers more and I really want a small intimate wedding in a seclude located wiht just my family and friends. The place I will be using provides for all the catering but I have not visited them yet to see what they offer. So in the interim I am trying to find somewhere on my own.  I found this website: http://bake-a-wish.com/, it displays some really nice cakes and based on the information it  seems like they are located in Jamaica, Montego,I believe however there is no contact information there.

Does anyone know of any good caterer in Montego that does really good wedding cakes? Thank you so much in advance :-)

Hey Spring-Bride - I don't know about a caterer, but I do know that Noida Cooke is a baker located in Montego Bay. She was one of the options my resort (Moon Dance Villas in Negril) provided. Her email is: noidacooke@hotmail.com.  Last I checked, she did not have a website, but she did do the cake at one of the Moon Dance Villas weddings in this slide show: Picture #127 on the following website : http://www.scphotographyslideshows.com/Marc_Zuhairah/

Hope this helps!

Hi Kezmode - I'm getting married at Moon Dance Villas in Negril this coming July. Definitely not too early to start planning - especially because it will give you enough time to put down the down payment and make a site visit to ensure that the place you choose is to your liking and is what it is portrayed to be on the hotel's website. A word to the wise, though. As you're planning, your "vision" for your wedding may change. For example, I always knew I wanted a villa setting (as opposed to a larger hotel), but I originally thought I wanted an arch made of palm leaves, but then, after looking at pictures of other weddings at my location, decided I want to get married under a tree on the beach. Another example: I thought I wanted centerpieces of orchid branches with hanging tea lights, but after seeing MDV in person and searching the internet, decided I wanted more tropical and lower centerpieces. So, in a nutshell, plan away, but don't be freaked if your ideas change. Or it could just be me - I'm very indecisive!! If you look at the post by Sungold Photography, you'll get a good idea of the different resorts and decor.

As for a resort to host 50-60 people, what about Moon Dance Cliffs? Their max capacity for a resort "take over" is 66. However, you can have additional guests stay off property if you have some overflow. They have premium liquor, wine, soft drinks, etc. As for the time cut off - I know there is a noise ordinance for the Negril beach, but I believe it is 11pm. Not sure if it changes at the cliffs where it is more isolated and the change of disturbing your neighbors is much lower. You might also want to check out Rock House Hotel, also in Negril. I was there with my now FI for a vacation a few years ago and we LOVED it. They host plenty of weddings too. Happy planning!

thanks LaraJO,

as much as moon dance cliffs looks fantastic it is way to expensive!!! as most of my family is coming from Africa and London, its already costing an arm and a leg to get here, i don't want to choose the most expensive place. they do however offer a great package.

i am running into a lot of villas that require you stay there? we are going to have kids so we are making a vacation of it,and staying at a resort. so we want to be able to make the best of it. I found Rhodes resort which is 8 miles away from negril. the grounds look great. Marcella said we could party till 5am, for,S1500 , just the price of the venue. i am still seeing how much everything else is going to cost food etc. I have been emailing Dawn from elegant weddings, she said it would cost about 7000,$ when i asked her to break down the cost she said she couldn't, and just told me the cost of the DJ $200 an hour. i sent Jan's and another florist what i want with regards to flowers and still waiting to hear back from them. i emailed Kevan and waiting for a response. As i look at other things the plans change you are right!!! where did you get your cake from?

thanks for the info...

Wow, okay so having people travel from such a great distance does certainly put a different spin on things. Have you looked into Sandals as an all inclusive resort where you could stay and have a wedding? I'm getting my cake from Margaret Myrie. I believe her bakery is called "Miss Myrie's." I met with her while we were in Jamaica and her cake was fantastic! We're going for a very simple cake, so I hope she can pull it off.

I know that the a planner, Helen G, posts on the forum a lot. She seems to be helpful. Maybe contact her for resort info?

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
