Hey girls-

So my plan was to send out my Save The Dates in mid-September. I was doing good...had them all printed and ready to go and then the Mexican goverment decides to close the resort I had booked...NICE! So they've been sitting here a month because I don't know what to do. I'm to the point I am ready to book a new resort so I can give people plenty of advance notice of the wedding. I really like Dreams Tulum but I'm a planner and this uncertainty is killing me!

I'm thinking that it will take a few weeks to get things finalized and re-printed so we are now looking at the Save The Dates going out in late November or early December. It would still be 7.5 months out from my wedding date but I'm wondering if I should just go ahead and send out the invitations instead of doing a Save The Date and then an invitation a couple of months before the wedding like I had planned. What do ya'll think?

Have any of you sent out an invitation that early?

I think you could get away with just sending the invites. I couldn't believe it, but alot of people I know hadn't even heard of STDs and I had to explain what they were and their purpose! Someone actually said they were a bit desperate!!lol

I personally think they are a fantastic idea, especially for destination weddings. But at the same time, they aren't essential. If I didn't have time on my hands, i'd probably skip them too.

I think you would be ok with just sending invitations. My wedding is in July and I haven't sent out my save the date cards yet, primarily because we are just now choosing an exact date. I am sending save the dates by the end of November. I will be sending formal invitations closer to time only to the guests attending the ceremony in Las Vegas.

I think you should skip the STDs. I didn't do them. I ordered oversized post cards from Vistaprints (just completed my order tonight! Thank God! I actually only paid for the S&H with a special that ended tonight) and plan on sending those out as soon as I get them and sending message in the bottle invites to those that are actually coming closer to the date.

I think you should consider going to a different resort. Dreams Cancun seems to be really nice. Have you seen the threads for the Dreams Tulum? You may want to check them out.

You have to consider the guests you expect. How long of a notice do you need to give them so they can pay. In my situation, everyone already complained about us having a DW and the cost. So I am giving them almost a year to pay for their trip.

SORRY, SO LONG WINDED!!

We skipped the STD's and went right to invites. We sent ours out in June for a January wedding. We decided if we were asking people to start booking (group requirements) then we should send them an invite. However, we gave lots of verbal warning to people (friends and family) about a destination wedding and potential costs. Good luck!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
