Beach Reception At The Royal Playa Del Carmen

Recommended Posts

Hi Ladies, I am looking for some input/advice from any beach brides at the Royal.

When I booked my wedding through Condo Villa Hotel world I was told that a beach reception would be no problem, but now that I am talking to Paty at the Royal about it she is telling me it depends on how many guests I am having, but I can't seem to understand if I have too many or too little. At this point I am expecting around 30 people. I seem to be getting the idea that the area is not big enough, but I am sure I have seen larger weddings with receptions on the beach. I am waiting on an email back from her with some clarification. I am really just hoping that it is a miscommunication.

Does anyone have any input?

Also, I was trying to plan my dinner menu and I am told I have to pick 1 salad, 1 entree and 1 desert for everyone! Everyone has to eat the same thing?

I originally wanted the buffet but I guess you need to have 50 people for that and I am sure I will not have that many people.

Any former Royal brides out there that can tell me if they had to choose one meal for everyone?

In Playa, throughout the year the tides can take out some of the sand on the beach one month and then return it the next. I have not walked down on the beach in front of the Royal in the last couple of weeks, but we just did a wedding at a nearby beach club and they had lost a lot of sand (and it certainly impacted how we placed the chairs and the altar). That may be impacting the Royal's decision to do a beach reception if they are worried that they do not have enough sand space to accommodate your reception (even for only 30 people.) That also may be why they said no problem before but are being more hesitant right now.

I may be down near the Royal tomorrow morning so I will try and drive by there and see how their beach is doing and post an update for you.

Good luck.

I really hope that is not a problem. I am also planning on having both my ceremony and reception at the beach. No one has told me that this might be a problem. I will keep my fingers crossed and really hope that is a miscommunication on their part. Please let me know what you find out Maybirde2009. Also, I have an email with a few dinner options. From what I understood we are allowed to choose three from each section. Do you have those menus? If you want I can forward them to you. The only communication I had so far is with my travel agent that talks to Zulma.

I was at The Royal Playa Del Carmen in March for vacation and saw a beach wedding and reception setup. From what I remember they setup the reception area near the ceremony site...maybe behind it. I wasn't engaged yet but was hoping I would be soon so I snapped some pics of the setup when I walked by...let me see if I can find them for you.

It's a great resort...we had so much fun there! I would have booked it for our wedding but we have children in our party so we couldn't chose an adults-only resort.

Children are allowed into the resort for the wedding day. Anyone with kids can stay at the Gran Porto Real...
There is another huge thread on the Royal right now... I think its called "Royal Playa del Carmen brides...." its over 45 pages long with tons of other Royal brides and info!

That would certainly explain the difference in information! When I was at both properties last week the beach at Royal Playa del Carman was fantastic! Very deep and wide!

The beach at Royal in Cancun was nearly non existant. they do have a large gazebo that goes over the water and a beach next door that you could use at the Gran porto but both would need to be a little smaller wedding to fit everyone!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
