First of all...Congratulations!  I'm so happy to hear your wedding was a success.  My wedding is 2 weeks from tomorrow and I'm really excited after hearing your wedding went so well.  What did you end up doing for centerpieces?  I know you said you were going to go to WalMart and see what they had for hurricanes.  Did they have anything worth using?  Also, which package did you purchase and what did you do about music for the ceremony and cocktail hour?  I have so many questions...any info would be great!  Thanks and congrats again!

Samantha

Hi Samantha,

Thank you!  For centerpieces, I brought vases from the dollar store and left them there.  Who is your wedding coord.?  I left 7 or 8 of them, I told Dulce and Lorena to let future brides use them, so ask if they still have them, you can use my name.  Then I went downtown, to a florist (my husband is fluent in Spanish) and bough 6 callas for each vase.  You can also go to Walmart, they had really nice roses for fairly inexpense also.  I also brought candle votives and put them around the center of the table, I left them too but I am not sure what happene to them...but to be honest jsut vases with flowers is nice.  i had my reception in the North Solarium and the beach is the background, so something so very simple is beautiful.  I am not sure how many tables you are going to have but I did see a few random vases in the weddings office, maybe you can ask if they have more.  I chose the complemantary package. I used DJ Mannia and he provided music for the ceremony and reception.  For the cocktail hour I didnt have music and to be honest, noone said a thing about it.  I am glad that I didnt waste the money for it. However, depending on your location of your cocktail hour, you can just bring ipod speakers and an ipod, that is what we did for all the other events that we hosted.

I know how you all feel about the what if's and can I's so please ask me...

Just wondering, at what point did the wedding planner get a hold of you?  Our wedding is in early May 2011 (so 6.5 months from now) and I haven't received any contact with any wedding planner yet.  Not sure if I should be worried about that or not?

Also, we will have about the same number of guests as you, so I'm wondering what kind of a deal you got on the rooms (cost per night for single/double etc occupancy)?  Our travel agent quoted us on a marked-up "deal" (yes...he marked up our deal from the resort so that in a 7-day stay our guests would only actually be getting a $60 discount on the total cost) so I have no idea what the resort actually quoted us prior to his mark up).  If I can find good enough information via such ladies as you (and others on this forum!) I will be bypassing his "help" and getting things done on my own, but I need to have some basis as far as prices to bring to his attention.  Also, did you get your 7-free room nights b/c of the number of guests you got?

I really appreciate you taking the time to answer these questions!!  If you dont feel comfortable posting any of your answers publicly feel free to send me a private message!! :)

Thanks!!

Hi Tara,

I know that you are uneasy about communication, but don't be!  I was in contact early with a planner but that is only bc I went on a site visit.  During that time I chose all of my locations, and times.  However, after that I would have random contact if a question popped up in my head, but just around 60 days prior was when we were in contact almost every day.  So don't worry about it too much at this point.  They are wonderful and they really do work hard to ensure your day is perfect.

As far as travel, please keep in mind that my wedding was during hurricane season so the prices are probably a bit cheaper. I used Vacations 4 Less out of Los Angeles, and was recommened to me by Tammy on this forum...they were also wonderful.  I am not sure what the rules are for booking travel from Canada but I would defintaly click on the travel request banner on the home page of the forum.  In my  case I only had her contract the hotel not air.  All of my guests booked thier air on their own bc it was a bit cheaper. I would def check more than 1 agent, as well as online sites, bc most agents will match the pricing. Don't just take what he says as a final.  Sometimes, air and hotel packages arent cheaper.

So with all of that said, here are the rates that we were quoted:

"Superior Deluxe"

525 sq. ft. One king or two double beds, in-suite double Jacuzzi; private bath with shower; balcony; partial ocean view.

Single - $322.00

Double - $356.00

Triple - $504.00

Quad - $648.00

"Deluxe"

525 sq. ft. One king or two double beds(bed requests is not guaranteed), in-suite double Jacuzzi; private bath with shower; balcony; views of resort or common areas.(all of my guests got an ocean view, even if they booked in this catergory)

Single - $250.00

Double - $292.00

Triple - $405.00

Quad - $500.00

Children 4-17 Yrs. $55.00 per child per night

Under 4 Yrs. are free

In addition, the $1500.00 resort credit is very much real and a great value, I am not sure if they will still have the promo next year, but your agent should have told you all of that.

Tanya,

Thanks for the info, I'll definitely ask about the vases.  I'm also bringing votives and have table runners as well.  Do you have any pictures you can post yet?  What did you go with for food and how did it taste?  How about the bar?  Sorry to ask so many questions, but I'm so glad you're here to help!

Thanks,

Samantha

I have to post some photos, I will try to soon.  Sorry!  We did buffet's for all events, but we mixed and matched form all of the menu options.  The food was great! While I didnt get to eat too much, everyone had only great things to say about it.  They really set it up nicely and they didn't leave any detail on the buffet line untouched.  You don't have anything to worry about. the Bar?  What do you mean?  Sorry, I am not sure what you are asking>

All-

I am a little over two weeks away and I am so excited! I am seeing a lot of questions on here that I should be able to help answer.

Photographer- Sascha Gluck- He has been absolutely amazing so far and his prices are great.

DJ- I used J and S Audiovisual and they have been very easy to communicate with and they added some lights for free.

Ceremony- I decided to have the wedding on the beach with the free package with some basic decorations.

Cocktail Hour- This will be in the South Solarium for an hour, they do provide a list of appetizer options to pick from.

Reception- North Solarium with table runners and matching napkins. I did hire a wedding coordinator separate from the hotel for my wedding reception so she helped my find flowers to decorate the vases that I am bringing with me. It is easy to get carried away with the decorations but you have to remember that you are by the beach and looking over the ocean so there is no reason to get carried away. I picked a mix of buffets and I am excited to see how it turns out.

Room rates-  I did sign a group contract and then my travel agent booked all of my guests through the contract.

Travel agent- She is amazing and is always on top of things

Tanya,

Your wedding was beautiful. All of it. Looks like everyone had an amazing time as well.

I do have a few questions for you.

You mentioned you used the comp package. Your bouquet and cake were both so beautiful. Did you pay extra for those?

Also, I loved your calla lillies on your reception tables. Were they hard to find in town and did the resort care that you broght them in?

I noticed your table runners, did you bring those yourself or rent from the resort? if you rented, what was the cost. They look lovely.

Last question was regarding your sites for welcome dinner and reception. Do you remember the names of those venues? and did you supply the Mexico decoration at the welcome dinner, or is that just part of that venue?

Once again, your wedding was so beautiful as were you. Congrats.

  • 3 weeks later...

Tanya,

Thanks so much for all the great info. I had a few other questions if you don't mind me asking. What was the atmosphere at the pool/beach area during the day? Music? Activites? I will have several early 20 year olds (my sons and cousins) and I want them to be able to have some fun during the day not just lay at the pool. We have been to MP before and know that they offer a million things, however, we love PDC and this resort is a huge draw because of the perfect location. I like the intimate feel of the resort as well, just want to make sure my guests are entertained during the day. Best of both worlds I guess.I am sure they will venture into town at night. Thanks for any feedback on this. Happy Thanksgiving.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
