Playacar Palace 2009 & 2010 Brides - POST HERE!

Recommended Posts

Gilberto quit right around the 4th of July I believe. We were supposed to have a meeting with him that weekend at the resort, but ended up meeting with the wedding manager for the resorts instead.

The wedding coordinator we are dealing with  now is Dulce, and she is extremely slow to respond. I dont think she's new. I think she has just been given all of Gilbertos weddings in addition to ones she was already working on.

So far our communication has been extremely limited and disappointing. I have no idea what to expect in a month.

Hi everyone,

Just wanted to let you all know that I just returned from a site visit and everything was great!  Yes, Gilberto is gone and they are in a period of transition, but the new coordinator we were assigned is fantastic.  Her name is Dulce and she is currently working at both Aventura Spa Palace and Playacar Palace.  However, she will be strictly working at Playacar Palace soon.  There is also another coordinator working there as well.  We are getting married there Nov 6 and had already booked our wedding before our trip.  I was so relieved once we got there and realized it was a wonderful as we had hoped.  All the staff was so nice and provided great service.  The food was way better than I would have expected for an all inclusive.  The location is incredible if you like to get off the resort and walk around in town.  The beach renovation turned out beautifully!  It looks amazing.  I will try and post some pics as soon as possible.  Hope that helps everyone.

Thank you so much kurlyks!  I just emailed her and I am really looking forward to seeing her photos.  :)

I'm pretty sure she's not on this forum, but I sent her a message asking for any pics and she added me on Facebook so I could see them. She has a TON of great pictures of the ceremony set-up, the resort in general, and the reception. Her sn on tripadvisor is maria3405 and if you want to see what the set-up looks like on the new beach she can probably help! Here's her review: http://www.tripadvisor.com/ShowUserReviews-g150812-d155824-r66656141-Playacar_Palace_Wyndham_Grand_Resort-Playa_del_Carmen_Yucatan_Peninsula.html

Yay!  SO happy to hear that you loved it!  We were there in January & were blown away.  We're getting married on Nov 13... so a week after you - I believe I'll be working with Dulce too!  Did you do a food tasting for your dinner?  Whatitems did ya like the best?

Thanks so much!!!!!!!!!!!

We didn't do a tasting for dinner, but did for the cake.  We are having our reception in the North Solarium outside, so we have to go with a buffet.  I was very overwhelmed when I saw all the options.  We want to do local cuisine for our menu, but not sure of some of the items listed on the Mexican and Yucatan menus.  Dulce told us we can mix menus if we want, so hopefully, it won't be a problem.  Since we ate in both restaurants and buffet and were please with the quality of the food, I'm not too worried about the food being good at the wedding.  Have you picked any food for your wedding?  Maybe you could suggest something for us.

I dont think you have anything to worry about.  My DH and I just returned from playacar palace and had a wonderful trip.  The service of the staff was great, the location was the best and the beach is perfect.  We had no problem using up our $1500 credit as it was quite easy to book the tours and we upgraded our room from the resort view to concierge level with an ocean view.  The only thing I would say was on the negative side was only having 3 restaurants, as we got a little bored.  There was always something good to eat but sometimes at the buffet somethings just sat took long.  We loved the asian restaurants but the italian was not so great for our tastes as we have tons of great italian restaurants here in nj(but others we met there loved it so to each its own).  Also they loved to put cream cheese in a hand full of the dishes (alot of the sushi had it and some of the italian) and i dont like cream cheese so i dont think that helped.

We only saw one wedding talking place for the whole week so that was nice compared to where we got married as they had one or two everyday.  Let me know if you want any pics or info on the tours as we did most of them.

Thanks for the reassurance.  I know it will be great!!!  Did you have any trouble booking the tours when you got there?

Hi Everyone:

I was married at Playacar Palace on May 22, 2010 - Gilberto was my planner, and Carolina assisted. I am a planner myself and pretty much handled all the logistics on my own, but am happy to answer any questions that you might have about it. Keep in mind that though you have the selections you make, everything is modifiable.

We were married on the beach, had our cocktail hour and reception at the North Solarium.

The food was UNBELIEVABLE for our reception, very much different than the regular menu. We decided to go with the traditional Mexican selection (I believe it was Southern Mexican - Im at work, and dont have my paperwork on me but can doublecheck that another time...)

So, any questions - feel free to ask away!

:)

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
