I must admit I'm pretty surprised at some of it, having been married there myself and not had some of the issues you did. Nicole shouted at your parents about the cake, really? That so doesn't seem like her, not that I don't believe you, but wow! She was sweet as pie to us and our guests, especially my parents who raved about her. She packed up the cake for us...we weren't thinking towards the end and would have left it if not for her. I'm sorry your stuff didn't get passed out, I didn't have that issue, but I know how much work you put into your stuff.

Overall I'm glad you are seeing above the trivial stuff and are just happy to have married Brian in a beautiful place. Your pics are awesome!!
I totally agree - you SHOULD post an honest review. If you didn't, this forum wouldn't be as helpful as it is.

But like Jamy, I am shocked at some of it, and so sorry it happened! Like I can't even picture Nicole or Kelley yelling at anyone, especially the brides parents! And we never even asked for our cake, but it was packaged nicely for us - and is actually still sitting in my freezer downstairs ... in tact! lol

I can't help but think Nicole just had a really rough day. Not that it's an excuse, but it just seems so out of character for her. Or any of the Caletas staff really. Our stuff was not only placed where we wanted it, but she did stuff we didn't even ask for - like decorate the table w/our placecards and photo mat, etc. I'm so sorry it wasn't everything you dreamed. But it sounds like you have a great attitude about it all.

So, the massages ... what was the confusion that had you get out of the shower to pay? Like you had agreed to pay them later and then they wanted it NOW or something? That seems odd.

Now I'm off to go check out pictures!

It does stink that it had to happen to me, but there is nothing I can do now.

She not only was rude to my parents, but several of my guests. I am finding this out as the days go by. It just makes me so mad, but I am trying to let it go.

Regarding the massages, yes I thought it was taken care of by a credit that we had, but apparently it wasn't and I needed to pay ASAP. So much for my relaxing shower. LOL!

I'm also REALLY surprised to hear all this... Nicole and Kelley were AMAZING when we were there, and I can't imagine what happened but there must have been a lot happening behind the scenes. It's interesting, but this really makes me think... we ALL have bad days at work, but when you're a WC it's practically not allowed because your bad day is supposed to be somebody else's best day ever. That's got to be incredibly difficult.

I would say this for future LC brides... and Yari, I'm not addressing you or anyone else specifically so please don't take this personally... but here is what I think.

A destination wedding is probably not a great choice for people who have tons of tiny details that they feel have to be perfect or their day will be ruined. Anytime you're dealing with things like travel, weather, a boat ride, tides, etc. then probably a few things are going to go wrong. If that is going to ruin things for you, then it's probably better to have your wedding somewhere a little more "easily controlled."

In my particular case, I was worried because the boat arrived late... they came across four humpback whales on the way to LC, and stayed a while to watch them play and jump (COOL!!!! but I was still worried). I was nervous that we weren't going to have enough light for photos, but everything worked out fine. Some of the pictures were in a gorgeous late sunset, and others were dark and it just didn't matter. Even the pictures in the dark were still lovely... and more importantly, I am now married to the man of my dreams!!!

Anyway, I hope that no one will be discouraged from getting married at Las Caletas specifically because of Yari's review. If someone wasn't 100% sure if a destination wedding was the right for them, then Yari's review could be super helpful in letting them rethink things... but my best suggestion to EVERYONE out there is don't sweat the small stuff. The most important detail is that you and your man (or woman) are going to be happy together!

XOXOXO Everyone!

:) Sarah

I think with any wedding destination or at home things will go wrong. I don't think it means just because you are having a destination wedding that you can't expect the little details to occur.

I knew that by posting the honest truth people were going to be upset. I felt that it was best to post what I experienced so others could learn from it.

Yari, your review was great! VERY HONEST! I had a ton of issues the day of, and most had nothing to do with a DW. They can go wrong and happen at any wedding. I certainly sympathise with you when you say you get angry, believe me, I am still trying to get over those little things, lol. As far as transportation goes, have any of the LC brides tried looking into leaving from Nuevo Vallarta? It is a longer drive from the marina, but its not that far. DH and I were married in the marina then honeymooned in NV. We did the Rhythm of the Nights tour that left from NV. LC has a private dock/area in NV which is actually very nice. I think I may have video and some pics. It is a lot nicer and definitely less confusing that the Marina terminal (we also did a booze cruise prior to our wedding which left from the marina). P.S. you don't get searched or need to pay a fee to get onto the boat in NV. Just a thought :)

I would just like to add that I disagree that just because you have a DW details should be swept under the rug. We paid as much for our DW (with less people) as we would have for a wedding at home so I think to expect less is somewhat unfair. I agree there are circumstances you can't help so to roll with the punches is a reasonable suggestion, but there is a definite difference between uncontrollable circumstances and specific details being missed or rude comments being made. I think Yari did an excellent job in pointing out the things that she wished would have happened differently in her wedding.

We had some issues too, but I didn't have the balls to post it in fear of causing problems here. So kudos to Yari for helping future LC brides know how to be better prepared.

Thanks for the insight on the dock in Nuevo Vallarta! Our wedding guests including us will all be staying in Nuevo Vallarta and leaving from there for LC rather than the PV dock. I have never actually been there so it is good to know it is a bit less confusing if you depart from Nuevo Vallarta!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
