Problems Contacting WC - All Resorts???

Recommended Posts

Hey All, I started this thread to find out how many of you have had problems contacting your WC at any of the Cancun/Riviera Maya Hotels. I am just kind of curious, and I am sure several people are, as to how much contact you ahve had with your WC and if they have been more of a WEDDING COORDINATOR or a SALESWOMAN. Has anyone had any luck negotiating their contract with any of their WC's...for instance, of there was something in a certain package that you did not want, did they apply that to another part of the package to bring the overall cost down for you? I am sure a ton of brides on here are interested to know these things. If you could, please list your Resort as well as your WC so everyone can compare notes!! Oh, also, please tell us what kind of problems, if any, you are having. Thanks all!

Secrets Maroma Beach is my resort and Cecilia Reyes is my coordinator. She has been very quick at emails and is very friendly. She's really great but the resort itself will not make package substitutions. It's rather unfortunate but I guess it's easier for them this way. To bring in an outside vendor (i'm flying my photog down) it's only like a $90 fee. The longest Cecilia has gone without getting back to me is only a day or so. Sometimes the translation isn't very good but I can usually decipher the meaning. If I write too many questions in one email they won't get answered so i just break it down and send many emails.

You probably don't want to consider Dreams Tulum seeing as it's temporarily closed and we don't know if the issues will be resolved, but the experience I had was that the coordinator was quick in responding when it came to set the date (although it wasn't always 100% clear which days/times were available) but afterewards the response was slow about other stuff seeing as they prefer to deal with it once you arrive (which is difficult, for your own sanity, for budgeting purpose, and in my case it affected what "supplies" I was going to be bringing). But once I arrived the coordinators were fabulous with very strong attention to detail and they were very organized. I would say almost everyone has had the same experience at Dreams Tulum.

I think it is a common problem with many resorts that the coordinators are bad at answering emails (they are overworked and they prefer to deal with details when you arrive). But I think there are a few exceptions, it's just a question of finding which resorts that is. I think one of them is Paradisus, I have heard some brides say that their coordinator is great at getting back to them.

I have on and off experiences with Dreams Cancun - I asked about the photographer and she relied within hours. When I said I didn't want him and wanted to know the policy I hear nothing lol

I find they are helpful when they want cash other than that you're one of many and until the wedding gets really close they are just too busy to contact you

When I was trying to get in touch with Dreams Cancun it was so hard too. My travel agent couldn't get in touch with them either. The WC from Dreams called my TA back about 9PM one night to leave her a message but to her surprise my TA answered the phone.

It is difficult getting a response back from the Riu WC as well. Once you request a date, it takes them about a week to get back to you. Before I requested the date, I had questions about the different resorts and sometimes they would get back to me right away, sometimes they wouldn't.

Overall, I really didn't like the response times but hopefully that will change closer to the wedding date.

We are at the Paradisus Riviera and have been in regular contact with our wedding coordinator Perla since January. She is phenomenal - responses are generally within 24-48 hours but the longest I have had to wait is 2-3 days.

In terms of contract - we picked things we liked from about 6 different packages, menus, pre-sets etc and she gave us a pp cost for those. To be honest her attitude all along has been that "they will do whatever you want" - of course you have to pay for it but they will certainly get you anything you request.

Great thread!

Keep in mind that as a general rule resorts that offer more than 1 wedding a day will tend to be busier - thus not as quick to respond because of so many brides to answer and details to take care of.

Resorts that offer free wedding packages will tend to be much busier with informational requests and weddings- thus a slower response time !

Moderately priced resorts will tend to have more weddings booked and inquiries and this will take longer to respond.

Family resorts also tend to get more inquiries and weddings than adult only resorts and so the response time is usually a tad slower!

Also if you are emailing mid to end of the week- more than likely you won't get a response till Monday or Tuesday as the WC's are meeting with the brides and over seeing weddings!

The WC's are also conducting site visits for the couples who are scouting locations during the week.

Destination weddings are becoming huge- I can't find the figures on how many cdouples had destination weddings last year in Mexico but it was an amazing amount!

Quite honestly you could not pay me enough to do that job! Those poor gals (and occasionally guys) must work at least 14 hours a day and still can't keep up!

I second everything Missy said. Perla is GREAT about getting back to me. I usually get email responses within 24 hours, only occassionally has it taken longer. Everything I have asked for she finds a way to make it happen and altho you will pay for it, to me the costs seem really reasonable. She has been able to substitute some things in our package to accomodate our requests at no extra charge. She and the resort are great to work with so far.

Im having problems getting in touch with my WC at the RPLA (assuming she probably does all 3 Rius in Cancun too) which isn't too worrying right now, but my day is in January and I work management in a retail store so December is going to be INSANE, I want to work out most details before then. I emailed her for the first time over 2 weeks ago and haven't heard anything yet.

I know she is probably swamped right now, but even a quick email saying that would be nice. I'm planning on calling tomorrow to see if I can get her. I found outside photography and need to cancel the resort photographer.

Does anyone know if there is an 800 number to the RPLA's wedding department? I'm scared of seeing my phone bill after the last time I had to call lol!

Thank you all for responding to this. I have noticed that a lot of people are having the same problems. I have also noticed that Mexico time is different than American time. Americans are always so rushed and eager to get things done NOW. One last thing I have noticed is that there havent been any posts from Moon Palace brides or grooms. Hmm...how should I take that? :)

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
