Hi, my name is Tara and I'm new to this great site! We're still in the early stages of planning and picking a destination. So far we're thinking the Dominican Republic in late 08 or early 09.

For those of you getting married in the DR, I'd love to hear about it!

Thanks!

Tara

Hi Tara!!

Congratulations!! I'm in the beginning stages, too, so I can relate! The DR is supposed to b GORGEOUS. Do you ever go on TripAdvisor.com ?? They have some great recommendations on there as far as resorts, etc. And you can do a search on there, like 'Dominican Republic Wedding' and they'll search the site and give you a bunch of info on any postings with that in it, and you may get some good ideas. Just a thought. Welcome!

I've researched the DR more than I'd like to admit!! But when it comes down to picking a resort for such an important day... man it's tough! Especially since we've never been. Good thing is that we still have time!

Have you thought about doing a site visit? I know I was having a really hard time deciding on a resort as well, and when I went to Cabo, the very second I stepped onto the grounds of the Sheraton I knew it was the right place.

But with that said, I've found that almost every resort I went to was great, so you really can't go wrong, it really just boils down to the "feel" of the place.

I have to agree with Tammy...while a lot of people are comfortable with "winging" it, I think site visits really help. And it sounds like you have some time with a late '08-'09 wedding date in mind. My FI and I were vacationing at Dreams Cancun (before we were engaged) and saw a wedding while we were there. We loved everything about the resort, and knew that's where we wanted to get married. I feel so much more comfortable knowing first hand what a great place it is. So after some initial research, if you have the opportunity, I'd say definitely do a site visit...and get a vacation out of it as well!

Welcome! I hope all of your planning goes smoothly. Personally, I'm looking at the Gran Bahia in Riviera Maya, but I know they have on in DR as well and it's supposed to be very nice.

Good luck!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
