OH i listened to some of the show on my drive home from work. i wished i could have watched entire show, it seemed interesting. i love o!

morgan- i agree with pretty much everything you said. you almost answered the questions for me too! lol thanks!

i do hate the cell phone answering, it's a serious pet peeve of mine. like morgan said, if you're with someone for awhile, phone rings, whatever. there are definitely times its not a big deal. but to dead stop in middle of a convo, or your at dinner and someone textes you, and you answer or start having text message convo's, its just str8 up ignorant. personally i think a lot of the annoyance with the phone thing is that i hate what the cell phone has become. i just think its redic that everywhere you look, someone has a phone up to their ear. arghhhh

Having worked in customer service for twelve years before getting my current job, I have definitely seen more rudeness than I ever thought possible.

I had a ten year old snap his fingers at me to get my attention when I was working at a coffee shop, heard coworkers get called "f***ing idiots" because they forgot to put sugar in the coffee, had an older couple tell me "if you can't speak the language properly you shouldn't even try" when I was trying to get better at speaking French, and have lost count of the number of snarky comments made about the length of the cashline in the last few days before Christmas (I get that people are frustrated and tired and just want to get their shopping done, but taking it out on the staff is far from the right way to go about it, especially when all the cashes are open and they are going as fast as they can). It makes me sad and worried for human kind when such behaviour is so prevalent.

There are people I know who I will refuse to eat out at restaurants with because of their rude behaviour. They speak rudely to their servers, roll their eyes, and don't tip...ever. We may not have a lot of extra money, but my husband and I always make a point of tipping well. Nothing makes me angrier than people who think they have the right to talk down to someone just because they are a server. How do they know the waiter or waitress isn't putting themselves through school, or working a second job to make ends meet?

sorry, I went off on a rant there. But rudeness is definitely high on my low-tolerance list.

Oh, and don't get me started on the people who come to the cash counter talking on their cell phones (again, at the coffee shop), and trying to get them to place their order while the line up gets longer behind them. That's just the height of rude. When I'm in a store and am heading to the cashline, I turn my phone off until I've finished my transaction.

OMG!! I love this thread. I hate rude people and what makes it worse is when they have no clue that they are being rude.

My name is Lisa and I was rude last night. Sorry!

This chick cut in front of me while I was trying to get a fried honeybun at the fair last night. I nicely told her she cut in front of me and the line was behind me. My friend started laughing cause apparently I wasn't as nice as I thought I was. Well.....NEVER cut in front of a 9 month pregnant lady trying to get food!! I felt bad afterwards....I'm usually not like that.

oh boy, dont get me started!

first of all i'm sure i've been my share of rude on occasion, so i wont even begin to say i think i'm not wink.gif BUT, working for an airline i have really realized how rude people can be. like, just because you can afford to shell out $300-400+ for a ticket to wherever does NOT mean that you have paid for the right to treat me like dirt. i am a person too!

what gets me is, you can have the meanest, rudest, most obnoxious person in line, (and this is not just the airport but any place!) and it never fails the next person in line will tell you how wonderfully you handled them and that you were so patient. i love this! it just reaffirms that you know that other person was totally behaving in the wrong. and also helps to make it better :)

OMG CELL PHONES. That's my biggest pet peeve. I loved the idea of them as a emergency use or to get ahold your hubby to remind him to pick up some milk, etc. But my hubby is the worst when it comes to his phone. He doesn't necessarily answer it at dinner, but he will answer his texts- which pisses me off like no other. OR we also car pool to work so I will be telling him some story and his phone will ring and he seriously will say "just a sec" and answer it in the middle of my sentence. I get soo irritated. It's like hello- I'm here. I come first. They can leave a message if it's important.

Also- I've worked in the service industry. YAH. People are jerks. Period. I had one guy call me a "f'ing monkey" when I was doing MY JOB and he got pissed because I asked him to move his car out of a fire lane. Whatever.

oh you know what? i also think a factor of how rude people can be goes hand in hand with the "only-child syndrome" thing.

doug and i bump heads on this one a lot. i grew up an only child, so i tend not to think about anyone else's needs over my own wants (i'm working on this! i swear!) but doug grew up as the baby of 5, and his whole gosh darn family is so helpful and kind to anyone they meet (for the most part haha). he is just more worried about others, but i have never had the experience of needing to. or at least i didnt realize it until i met doug and he called me out on it. can you believe i've pretty much only ever dated only child guys too, so they were just the same as me, i never realized it!

but on the other hand, sometimes he just doesnt get it that its hard to learn to be "different" from how i've always been when no one in my entire life has ever told me about this!

anyways, i digress, BUT i think it could be part of the whole rudeness thing, people may just not know that what they are doing is rude. they are just selfish, but not because they are mean people on purpose, but because its just how they were brought up. people just dont stop to think what the result will be, they just act/react how they want.

I've been thinking about this the last few days - maybe "rude" is when you do something with the knowledge that it's not nice or that it will have a negative impact on someone else.

Maybe it's "inconsiderate" when you don't know (or dont think) of the impact your actions have on others.

Yesterday, I was trying to park in a small and busy lot and someone had double parked (crossed into 2 spots). Either they didn't know or didn't care they were taking up 2 prime spots. If they knew it and didn't straighten up the car due to laziness, that is rude. If they didn't notice, they were being inconsiderate. Either way, I couldn't park there (ugh).

What do you think?

Using the above definitions, I see more inconsiderate people than rude people (but I dont work in a service industry). People are so focused on themselves, they forget to consider anyone else. But being so focused on yourself that you don't consider others is rude! Oh no, I just shot down my own logic smile105.gif

ashli, i totally agree, even tho you blew yourself out of the water wink.gif i still think you are right. there is a thin difference between the two if you are the one being wronged, but a huge-o-mungous difference when it is you doing the wronging, haha.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
