How much is your wedding costing you?

Recommended Posts

We spent about $6,000. This included my dress, dresses for my daughters, cruise for me, DH and daughters, reception, ceremony, photog, flowers, oot bags, airfare. I asked the kids to pay their own airfare and cruise for anyone they were bringing with them. This also included spending money, limo for wedding and to the cruise ship. Our accomodations in Florida were covered by my timeshare. I did use a lot of my timeshare points to pay for rooms for my girls, MOH, BM and in-laws.

Our budget is 17,000. We are paying for 6 of our guests (parents and sisters) plus FI & I for the week (FI & I are staying for 10 days), we are going with the 'free wedding' package (there are 26 guests coming.. so free wedding is included and adding a few extras (photographer, dinner $20 pp, flowers..)

my dress cost $200 !! ... lol the best bargain so far!!

I'm having a hard time figuring out how to come up with a budget!! Do I calculate how much what I want is going to cost and make that my budget, or calculate how much we can afford and try and make it fit into thathuh.gif My FI's parents have indicated they will be contributing, but so far we don't know how much and my FI is waiting for the right time (if there is one?) to ask. We have a year until the big day, but the more and more I read on this forum, the more ideas I get for our wedding day that of course contributes towards the budget! Help!!!

We approached our budget by looking at what we wanted and then what we thought was 'reasonable' (for us) for each part of the budget.

We came up with about $8,000. I was hoping for $5-6K, but that wasn't realistic for us. As it is, right now we're approaching $11,000.

This is for a wedding at a semi-inclusive resort (we'll have to pay for drinks and all lunches), several trips for the two of us, our airfare and accomodation, all other wedding related costs (dress, suits, OOT bags, etc.).

We have gone over budget on a few things, namely:

- my second dress frown.gif ... but I'm SO happy I bought a different one

- we just bought a camcorder. We'd budgeted $800 total, but we bought a better, High Definition one today and with a 4-yr warranty, ect. the total was about $1,000.

We have so much left to buy. It's going to be a brutal month!

Ours went into 2 phases. One I picked out my dream everything and put in the numbers on a spreadsheet with notes. Then after seeing the total went back over to see if there were areas that we could change and save money on. In my siggy is a link to all my templates including my budget. It might be a big help to you to see someone elses. Carla wink.gif

Wow, you ladies are scaring me..If I had 20,000 I would remodel my kitchen!

That said, i am just beggining my planning and was thinking $5,000 would be a good budget. Wer'e getting married winter 2010 in Costa Rica

that would include..

One week at a private villa which also doubles as ceremony and reception site as well as accommodations for 10 friends.

Our friends will pay their share, so we'd pay $1,000 for the place.

And the rest will go to spending money and food for about 20 people the night of the wedding.

I am a fashion designer, so I will be making my own dress, as well as invitations, STD, etc.

I was hoping to have a close friend do the photography as a wedding gift.

Neither of our parents are very well off and approaching retirement age, so we won't be accepting any help from them, just that they pay their own way.

Geez..I hope we can pull this off!!smile105.gif

  • 2 weeks later...

elizamaria I am hoping to only have to spend 5,000.00 but after punching some numbers, thats not so realistic for me. I think 2 weeks at the resort is going to take a large junk of that. I have made a list of items I love and have started putting prices beside each. Just the other day I figured its going to cost 250.00 for the std's and invitations I like. I have since decided to make my own. I am still trying not to go over that 5,000 budget but I realize I might just have to!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
