How much is your wedding costing you?

Recommended Posts

Hello!   I am trying to plan my destination wedding but do not know where to start! I have been reading thread upon thread and bog up blog to find out how much a DW might cost. I have gathered between 10,000 to 20,000 is sufficient which is exactly what my wedding budget is. However, as I am calling travel companies and looking at resort websites I am getting numbers like 800 PER PERSON for just the reception alone (just food and alcohol!). Please please help me! Is my budget of 10 to 20 thousand reasonable for bounty 50 guests? Do I plan through a company or the resort? My dream is to have a beach wedding which is perfect since I cannot afford one where I reside!   Thank you so much to anyone who will help and give any info.   Sincerely,   Desperate bride-to-be

  • 4 weeks later...

We initially budgeted $10,000 (not including our rings) but that didn't include a professional photographer.  Now we have decided on taking our own photographer and DJ however, both haven't done destination weddings and we got them dirt cheap so they can use our wedding to form part of their portfolio.  Our budget has now increased to just over $12,000.

I have seen some brides come back to this thread after their initial budget and have to increase it and the same has happened with us and the thought is absolutely terrifying especially because there's no room. I am going to have to cut out a lot of things I was hoping to add. I don't even know where I would come up with the money and the thought is scary! I took a second job to be able to afford our wedding and am putting in overtime at my first job. I am a teacher and I am teaching Saturday classes and tutoring after school on some days and bartending at night, and it still seems like we will come up short and the wedding is 4 months away. I am super sweating bullets- like even considered taking out a personal loan because I just don't see how we would be able to do it.

Flights- round trip- $500 each

Hotel Stay- all inclusive- $2,600 ($1,300 each)

Wedding Package @ 24 people- $5,000

Photographer- $2,800 plus room to avoid the outside vendor fee (room is $606)

DJ- $590 plus $500 outside vendor fee

AHR- $4,000

AHR DJ- $2,400

Veil & headpiece balance- $700

All I see are dollar signs and negative signs lol

Our budget is at 5K. Who can beat that? ;) We'll have 3 guests with us, and I'm pretty sure that's going to be the wedding of my dream. After going through the wedding of my sister with 100+ guests several years ago I realized that I don't want a big wedding at all. I just don't think spending several thousand dollars more will make me happier and make my "I do" any more special.

Cost breakdown:

Trip for 2 (flight + resort) - 3000$

Photography - 800$

Dresses (ceremony and reception) - 300$

Groom's attire - 100$

Rings (titanium with gold inlay) - 250$

The rest goes on hair & makeup, accessories, bouquet & boutonniere, wedding arch on the beach.

My Fiance and I were going over our budget last night and we are going crazy... We do not want to skimp on anything BUT at the same time the reason we planned on a DW was so that we wouldnt go into debt over a wedding. I know it sounds stupid but I am having the biggest issues with my OOT bags. I want to give my guests quality things that they will use BUT i feel like all the items are starting to add up!!! I will post my full budget later... we originally planned on about 30 people coming but right now we have 60-which is great BUT put's our costs WAYYYY up!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
