Hi Lisa! Thanks so much for the pictures. What all did your friend do for her reception? Did she do other group activities at the hotel?

Thanks for the pictures! They are even better than the others I have seen for that resort.

They did not do any other group events other than the reception. The reception was on the beach, with an open bar, and a 5 course meal. They had a DJ and a dance floor....and a mariachi (sp?) band for an hour - at the begining of the wedding and in between the wedding and reception. Our group is easliy entertained - which is great for me! So, everything she had (which required very little planning on her end) was perfect!

I honeymooned there! It was the best. I just showed Lisa's pictures to my husband and we went down memory lane. Lisa, I think we had the room right above yours (based on the photo you posted of the view from your room. We were in that corner room on the top floor!

Julie, the place is amazing and the food is SOOOOOOOOO friggin good! The food was better than most restaurants that we've eaten at (and paid for) in CA. I would highly recommend this resort for your wedding. However, if you are looking for something really private, you may want to look elsewhere for the ceremony. We watched about 4 weddings happen at the gazebo during our stay and there were sometimes people walking by. If you don;t mind that, then I would definitely go for it! It is in the perfect location, it is beautiful and the food was amazing!

Yes, we were right on the corner, on the 2nd floor. I would definitely recommend this hotel! The food was awesome!

I agree with Rebecca....the wedding and reception was not very private, but that was o.k. with us.

Hello All! I am a newbie!

I am thinking of having my wedding at THE ROYAL also. I have seen many good reviews but not too many wedding photos. I like that we can have a reception or fun night in Playa Del Carmen since the resort is so close to 5th street; however this also concerns me that the wedding will not be private at all on the beach. The only beach wedding photo I saw had a big volleyball net in the background! This resort was my top pick until I talked to my Travel Agent who said he was not impressed with it at all and heard people had problems with the wedding coordinators turing over frequently.

Im so confused!!! Can anyone help me?

I am 26 he is 30 and we are getting married mid April 2008 in the Maya Riveris are, prefer near to Playa Del Carmen (short walk or shuttle/cab ride). We anticipate between 20-30 people. We want a nice resort with a beautiful beach/pool area and enough day and night activity to keep our group of 25-35 year olds happy. Any suggestions?

This is just my opinion - - The Royal is the only place that I've ever attended a DW at. As far as the beach being private - it's not - so if that's the deal breaker, then I would rule this resort out. Yes, there were people standing around watching the wedding.

BUT, if you have a good photog then they should be able to crop things out of the photos - like people or volleyball nets...

As for as the hotel WC accomodating the bride, she was completely happy with the assistance. Now, I'm not sure if the same one is there...

Also, we had aprox. 50 people in our group - ages 5 - 60 - the majority being between 25 - 35. We had THE BEST TIME!! We LOVED the fact that we could walk to all of the bars and shops from the hotel w/o getting a cab. We LOVED the hot tubs in the rooms! We LOVED the food! We would def. go back. This is just me talking about my one and only experience at a DW.

I agree with Lisa. for the age group you are hosting, I think The Royal is the best spot for location, food & entertainment. I don;t think there is a better option actually. You could probably decorate the gazebo with a lot of plants/flowers to make it more private.

Like I said, we saw 4 or so weddings and during some, there were people walking by and others no one. The later in the evening you have it, the better probably. If you do it just at sunset, most people are no longer on the beach. I remember them clearing the lounge chairs and things straight out from the gazebo so it wasn't visable for pictures, etc. I would still go for it. I spoke to a bride after her wedding there in the shuttle and she had no complaints at all. She also told me the wedding coordinator was great.

Your other option would be another really gorgeous resort out in the boonies?? But there won;t be a town walking distance, rather a short cab ride??

I have heard that the Aventura Spa Palace is gorgeous!

I just wanted to follow up on the question I posed earlier about the wedding coordinator. My TA must have been confused, because I checked and Paty has been there 11 years! She has also be extremenly responsive to all emails. I was leaning toward the Iberostar Lindo but her responsiveness has me back to ROYAL being #1. Wow! I am still confused.

                      Hi Julie,

Would you mind me asking how many guests you're planning on inviting and how much you think it will come out to?

I'm comparing several places in Playa.

                      Thanks!
