Dress Alterations??

Recommended Posts

Okay, I want to purchase my dress from David's Birdal, and I want to lose weight. They said, and everyone else I talk to, to order the dress ASAP. My wedding is Jun 27. If I were to lose 30 pounds (that would be awesome), could they alter it to make it that much smaller? Or should I buy the dress smaller?? I really do not know what to do... Any advice??

I was going to suggest the same thing. You have plenty of time!

I don't think you're too early. I struggled with the same concerns about sizing. I ended up ordering the size for the largest part of me (as is suggested) and it definitely needs alterations as it is right now. I wanted to be sure I was confortable to sit and dance so I preferred to go up a bit cause it can always be altered down. I like you, expect to lose weight I won't be sure where I will lose it.

I def won't have it altered until closer to the date to ensure a proper fit.

Well, I went with my MOH today to try on the dress... it fit perfectly right now... They said maybe I should order a size down because they could always take it in, or let it out an inch on each side... So, I am thinking that is a good idea... I am just afraid if I get the one that fits perfect now, if I lose 20-25 pounds (which is very possible), they might not be able to take it in a lot and I will have to get another dress... They said if I get a size down, that they can let it out one size, or take it in up to two sizes, so... I am thinking go with the one a size too small...

Well, I was in the same situation. I ordered my dress for the size that I was. I lost about 20 lbs, but I didnt need any alterations b/c my dress was a corset style, so all we did was pull the corset tighter.... so I think it depends on your dress style. I would say order for the size that you are, cause even though you are planning to lose weight, you dont want the stress of trying to figure out what you are going to do if you dont.

i ordered my dress one size smaller and believe me, it NOT worth the stress! order the dress in the size you are now!!! i've worked my butt off (literally - 4 inches!!) and have lost 12 pounds, but turns out none of it was in my ribcage so my dress is still tight. i have two more months before my final fitting to lose more weight, but short of having a rib removed, its not going to help. there is room in my dress to let it out and fit, but barely, so honestly, i strongly urge you to order the dress in your current size! you never know what will happen and where the weight will come from so just play it safe :)

Haha, you guys are so right... I don't want to totally stress and have a fit if I can't get in to it... and I guess if they can take it in two sizes, that would be awesome, but it would be a miracle of God if I got lower than that... SO I think this is a good idea as well... can we say fickle? lol

I would definitely order the dress for the size you are now. Like someone else said, where you loose weight you can never really guess, so I'd go to the safe route and order it know that it will fit even if you don't loose weight.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
