The Engagement Ring

Recommended Posts

oops.gif No sure if this is the appropriate place for this question but, I was wondering if there was anyone out that traded the enagagement ring for something a little different? It could be bigger, smaller, different shape, color or whatever. Is there anything wrong with getting exactly what you want within reason, or does the gesture and the proposal far outweigh the actual ring given? Thanks in advance smile105.gif

Welllll....I am thinking that ultimately, it depends on the type of FH you have.

If he is a sensitive guy, who agonized over choosing one for you...then just personally, for me, I couldn't do it. I'd be happy with it, because he gave it to me and all that Hallmark card stuff.

On other OTHER hand...if you have a man who has told you in any way, shape or form that he wasn't sure WHAT to get you, and expressed any type of worry about it, then I'd say you were safe to at least approach the subject of swapping it for something else.

I know it's got to be hard...I would hate not being happy with something I am wearing for the rest of my life. That's one reason I shamelessly pointed him in the right direction in terms of style months before he did anything about it. lol

Good luck, and keep us posted. I'd like to hear how this turns out for you.

Yea I think it depends on the guy. My FI never really asked me what I wanted beforehand so after he got it he kept asking me if I wanted to trade for something different. He even let me look around the store when we went to get it sized to see if there was something I liked better. Ultimately I know he is planning to get me an upgrade, but I've decided to keep the one he originally picked out for now.

I traded my e ring. And I even helped pick out the origional!

It came down to wedding bands for us. I LOVE my original e ring, but I could not find a wedding band to go with it. And ultimately I decided that I really wanted to wear a e ring and wedding band together. FI was with me for the 1,000s of rings I tried on, and he was on board when I threw around the possibility of switching.

However, had I said I wanted to switch the diamond, he would have been hurt/upset. He picked the diamond all by himself and took his sweet time doing so! I would never trade the diamond because it means a lot to both of us. Where as the band holding it didn't have as much symbolism to us.

My FI actually ended up buying an engagement ring that he did not like because the one he'd been eyeing for a while wasn't available when he went back to buy it. He actually hates my engagement ring and I love it. So, the plan is to upgrade my ring size and the setting type to what he wants for our five year anniversary. Luckily the ring he wanted me to have, I LOVE so its a win-win situation for me :)

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
