I am not sure. I read on the yahoo board that her first quote is always really high, but that she does negotiate, so I guess I will ask and see what she comes back with. I definitely did not budget $3K for flowers - more like half of that. But she definitely knows what she is doing.

First off, please note that I do not have a formal proposal yet from Elena Damy, we only met for our initial consultation. I will post another review after the process has really taken shape.

With our whirlwind trip planned, and not being able to get in touch with Elena or anyone with her company, I was doubtful that we would be able to meet in person during our site visit last weekend. On a whim, my event planner called and finally made contact with Carlos, Elenaâ€s husband. Although they were booked for a Saturday meeting, he agreed to meet us on Sunday morning, even though they are not open on Sundays! [Note – great service! I was thrilled!]

We met with Carlos on Sunday April 22, 2007 at 10:00AM. He informed us that he and Elena just had their baby boy the past weekend, so thatâ€s the reason for the slower communication time – I think thatâ€s a pretty good reason, giving birth, donâ€t you!?

Carlos was very professional, he handed us his business cards for our files when we got to the shop. He then set up his computer and we watched a brief presentation of Elenaâ€s work. It was enough to get a feel of her work at events, see coordinating details, etc without being in front of a computer screen for a long time.

We filled out a questionnaire which will help with the design process (example: favorite flowers, color, theme/vibe of event, # in party, location, etc). He was very attentive to our comments, taking notes as we talked generally. We looked at more pictures on his computer and had general conversations about ideas, likes, dislikes, etc.

I must say Elenaâ€s shop is uber-cool. All white walls with very contemporary art and furniture – my fiancé was in heaven! Think white meets wheatgrass. The coffee table is on rollers, which made it easy for us to see the computer, talk, flip through magazines, etc.

Since this isnâ€t much of a formal review, Iâ€ll say this. I was very impressed with Carlos†willingness to meet with us on Sunday, regardless of his personal schedule. He was professional and fun, and Iâ€m sure they work very well together. Elenaâ€s work is just amazing – itâ€s fun and hip without being stiff or uncomfortably modern.

We are going to submit pictures, details, themes, etc to Elena within a week or so and get the process started. I will share my thoughts once we have proposals and negotiations, and of course, any pictures we might receive.

Jill I am anxiously awaiting your quote. I have noticed that when Cabo weddings are featured in print or television, elena Damy is often used. I have heard taht she has the best product but also the highest pricing. I am sure your final outcome will be just perfect!

Ok, just an update for those who are interested.

My WC made a request to Elena for a proposal three weeks ago...we have yet to hear anything, not even an acknowledgement that they are working on it.

My WC is going to give it another day or so, but if we don't hear anything soon, we are going to have to find an alternative.

Sort of bummed, b/c what we discussed and the decor we were going to use was going to be out of this world. I know she had a baby in April, so it could just be that they are getting used to being new parents, but a simple email to tell us they're swamped would be greatly appreciated.

GGRR!

    • I'm so sorry to hear this  Did you have a signed contract with him? What did he or the contract say the turn around time be? If it is way past the deadline, you have made several documented attempts to contact him, and he has broken your contract and failed to produce what has been promised, you could resort to writing an online review of your experience -- often times, that motivates vendors who've dropped the ball to rectify the situation because it affects other potential clients.
    • STAY AWAY FROM CARIBBEAN EMOTIONS PHOTOGRAPHY!!!! Michael Weiler is a SCAMMER he took our money and disappeared!! we hired him as our photographer for our wedding back in November, he gave us a run around for the first week or 2 saying our pictures are almost ready and then disappeared. we have been sending him emails, texts and phone calls for the past 4 months and he is now where to be found. I made a fake account to email him and he answered right away as he is only interested in taking peoples money and not give anything in return.
    • For weddings you should definitely use a travel agent as there are promotions and amenities with a group block that you will not get by booking individually like comped rooms, upgrades, spa treatments, etc.
    • Congratulations and welcome to the forum! There are lots of great resort options in Punta Cana and we have stayed at or toured many of them.  Are you looking for a family friendly resort or adults only?  What you interested in with nature and the ceremony? All of the resorts will have different wedding locations and there are also a variety of off resort wedding venues in Punta Cana. Please feel free to email us at info@wrighttravelagency.com if you'd like us to send resort info and check group rates. Thanks! Patty
    • Hello Everyone!  I am currently in the initial stages of planning and I am starting to look at resorts in Dominican Republic. I am thinking of having my wedding in October 2020.  I have been looking at resorts in Punta Cana, but I also want to look at other options/areas as well. The groom and I enjoy nature and we would like to incorporate that into our wedding in some way. We may also have a guest list between 50-80 people. Since we live in the US, I wanted to find a location that is accessible from major airports and is cost efficient for our guest as well as us. Can anyone share what locations they have searched or been to other than Punta Cana? Also I am okay to receive feedback on some Punta Cana locations.
