That applies to only certain airlines when securing a group discount, I know it works that way with Continental and Delta. Not so sure about the other airlines...

Agreed, that can sometime be the case, especially when you're booking hotel accommodations or a specific flight for several people. But in this instance, getting a "group/meeting rate" gives you an additional 5% to 10% off any online quote from any departure city, on any flight to your wedding destination city. So it actually works out pretty well cheesy.gif

This is true! The 10% discount I secured (Alaskan) and 5% (American) apply to any flights from any city to my destination within a large block of days. There is no "contract" that you need to sign and no deposit required. :)

We got the 10% Alaska Airlines discount set up, too--no problem. Likewise, 5% for American.

The other airlines were more difficult:

United requires 25 people flying on United to your destination, and there's a $50 per person fee if your total number is less than 25. You have to sign a contract agreeing to those terms.

Continental told us "we no longer offer discounts for weddings".

Delta/NWA/KLM: the only discount is for 10 or more people flying on the same flight, same dates, to same destination.

Not sure about USAirways yet.

All of this information is current as of today--we just sent in our requests in the past week.

Very true. I wanted to set up a group booking for my guests, only to find out that the group fare was more than $150 more per person than it was as a single fare!!! A TA looked into it for me, and although she was able to do better...only $75 more per person...that was the best that she could do because her hands were tied. Also, you MUST book at least 10 people on the same exact flight....I did not want to be on the hook for this and I felt that I was not providing my guests with any measureable benefit...so..unfortunately...they will have to book air on their own.

BTW...I also got the American Air discount, but it is only a 5% discount...not a 10% discount. I called Delta and was told that they no longer offered this benefit!!

We contacted ALL the airlines about convention codes and the only ones that came through with no-strings-attached discounts for weddings were Alaska (10%) and American (5%).  I believe we had to affirm that at least ten people would use the code, but that's it.  Code was valid for a two-week window surrounding the event.

Other airlines would do business meetings only or had other restrictions that made it impractical.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
