I would recommend bringing in your own photographer and having them stay as a guest. I know that might not be a possibility with SOL, and I know their work is amazing... but how can the RUI tell you that one of your GUESTS who is staying at their property can't take pictures?

I just did a quick Expedia and bringing your own photographer for three nights (so most photographers would give coverage for the day before, wedding, and TTD) would be $1650. For two it'd be $2100. So for just $400 more than the terrible resort package you could fly in your own photographer. Of course, some photographers might charge a fee on top of that, but try and find one who is just breaking into the destination business and I bet you can get it to next to nothing.

Hey I was upset too when I discovered this a few weeks ago too and have been trying to think of a way around it. I asked the RIu and they said they have two photographers that the resort work with. I checked out both their websites, and honestly, their pictures aren't too bad. Of the two, I like Juan's pictures better, I've emailed him with a few questions, but he hasn't replied. Here are their websites and email addresses. Check them out and see if you will be ok with either of them. And they offer their own wedding packages as well, so in addition to the ones that comes with your wedding package, you can get additional coverage. I am hoping they'll use better cameras for their own wedding packages.

Goodluck, let me know what you decide on doing! Pictures are a huge deal to me too, so I totally understand why you'd be so upset. Thanks by the way for the FAQ you sent me, very informative!

The Royal, is just down the beach form the Riu... and I believed prices better (less expensive) with more bang from your buck (each room double person jacuzzi)... check them out... it may be worth it to switch... although at the Royal you have to pay a $100 outside vendor fee... but if they stayed at the hotel.. I don't think you would have to.

I just got an email from Cinthya, my wedding coordinator at RIU...i'm just going to paste it here:

"Dear Laura,

The information that I sent you before you can find it available in our web site, even in the website says that is very important that you read this document cause you will be able to find our policies in there, the policy from the photographers is not something new, this has been our policy since the beginning, now there is one thing, Riu does not allow outside vendors but in the case of the photographers if you want to bring your photographer from home it´s not any problem but he/she will need to stay at that the same hotel where the wedding is going to be or if you want to hire a photographer from outside (from this area) you will need to paid 400 usd to the hotel and they will be able to be in your wedding.

Our photographer company will have their website in a couple days, so you will be able to see their work.

Kind Regards

Cinthya P."

so I guess I'll just pay the outside vendor fee....

oh wow, i had no idea about that vendor fee.. when i asked about an outside photog they didn't say that.. maybe i didn't push them hard enough. well, i'm sure you didn't want to hear about a $400 fee, but i think you should be happy! you can get the photog you want!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
