Saving cake?

So...has anyone saved the top layer of their cake for their first anniversary? I know the cake may be a bit crappy, but I still want to save it!!

 

Has anoyone brought it out of Jamaica and is that even allowed? I can bring a ton of saran wrap and tin foil to wrap it in, but getting it out of the country is my concern.

I know of a couple that froze a layer and ate it on their 1 year anniversary. They said the icing tasted funny, but that it was fine to eat.

 

Not sure about bringing cake out of another country.

 

Maybe you could save a layer/piece from your AHR if you are having one?

oh yeah, I would freeze it when I got home....

 

No AHR. If you aren't coming to Jamaica...well then oh well!! We just don't want to spend the additional money.

I was also wondering about this! We aren't having an AHR but FH really wants to save part of the cake for our 1st anniversary. Any more imput would be great!

I would suggest that you freeze it while you are there before you leave. Then I would just carry it on the plane with you. It's not a liquid so its fine. You would just have to make sure you declare it at customs and probably make TSA aware of what you have. The only thing I would worry about is it thawing and then having to refreeze it. YOu could take a small cooler checked w/ you and bring it back w/ dry ice. Each airline has a certain amount that is allowed for dry ice. Just call the airline. YOu will have to let the airline know prior that you are bringing dry ice, cause they can't have any pets in cargo w/ dry ice. That's another option

I wondered about this, too.

 

Also, what about bringing back your bouquet to freeze dry? You can't bring plants back into the U.S., so I don't know how this would be handled.

I am using silk. That way I can keep them forever. I know you cant bring live plants back...if I didn't go with silk I was thinking of having my bouquet replicated back in the US, but I solved that problem/

You can bring on the plane. No one will bother you. It's cooked/baked item. It's also not a liquid. Unless, you are dealing with a d*** security officer, you should be fine.

I didn't bother saving the top layer. I had so much luggage. I couldn't bother with one more thing. Plus, I had the flu on my honeymoon. I didn't even want cake.

I'm not into flowers. LOL, I would rather diamonds or at least a cookie. I didn't bother with freezing the bouquet. My guests tore it apart. I loved everyone moment of it. It was like Death Bridal Bouquet Match 2007. Again, I didn't have the patience or strength to travel with another item. I have my pictures of my bouquet for my memories.

I would have trashed my dress too. My mother paid for it. She insisted that I preserve it. LOL, she also threaten to throw a fit.

I work for a catering house and we save the top layer of the cake all of the time. Basically you should freeze it before you leave and your caterer should be able to wrap it up for you in a secure box. I'm not sure what the policy is with taking food out of Jamaica and into the US. You may have to fill out some paperwork. I know when I have traveled internationally you have to declare any food along with other stuff.

 

I would recommend having a small cake made on your one year anniversey or at your AHR, that looks just like your cake at your wedding.

Are you having an AHR? if so i would chunk the top layer of cake from Jamaica. We ate maybe a couple of slices from the cake b/c it was so aweful.
