Anyone NOT having family/group pictures taken?

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

Is there anyone not having family/group pictures taken? I HATE those pictures where everyone is standing shoulder to shoulder like a line up at a police station. Think I will regret not having these pictures taken? Thanks wink.gif

I haven't decided (and I have a ton of time to figure it out) but I know what you mean about the everyone standing in a line. I really only want candid photos of our wedding and no posed ones. I think I might get one of the entire group (approx 30 people) but not sure how I would want it. I think it is just a nice reminder of everyone that shared the special day with you! I may come up with a creative way to do that though. Ie) Everyone with their glasses up toasting the celebration.

You are not alone in not enjoying the police line-up photos though! We are going to bring a photographer with us who is a friend of a friend and we have been at weddings he has shot. He takes all candid photos and they are amazing!

I hate the line-up pictures too. That's why I picked Kristie as my photographer...she tends to come up with more original and creative ideas. I know my mom will want some "family shots" though so if we have to take any of those, they'll probably just go to her. But hopefully we can make them somewhat unique and artistic!

Personally, I think you will regret it. We got family shots, but I have NONE with just my Mom & I, my Dad & I and my Mom, Dad & I and I HATE that we didn't get those. It just slipped our minds. And we also forgot to get a full group pic on the beach.

You can get creative with those pics so they aren't just "standard" though. (see the bridal party pic in my siggy, or look at my teaser pics). There are plenty of ways to not have them be so "typical".

But I would never have NOT gotten family and group shots done. I want to be able to look back at those pics in years to come .. and hopefully my children adn their children, etc will too...

kristie also did my pics & we didn't plan on doing the family pics. i talked to both moms about it & they agreed they don't like those line up family pics. in every wedding i've been I really didn't like that part of the wedding. you are so excited & just got married and then you stop and take a bunch of combinations of pictures.

but, after the wedding mike's mom asked if we were doing a family picture. we had talked about not doing one and she didn't seam to care if we skipped that. so then we made plans to do them after dinner. it was just a quick thing.

the way i wanted to get family pictures was while we were toasting after the wedding. i really prefer those. they are more natural.

we did do a big group pic with everyone. i really like that picture.

I want a picture of everyone in the family/friends (so do the parents), so I am going to a quick group pic. How about a more relaxed pose a la Annie Leibovitz for Vanity Fair (maybe not as dramatic)? http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3042/...4907bd47_b.jpg

Everyone can stand in a more natural pose (mom/dad holding hands, bff and her bf w/ arms around each other, leaning on a rock, a sassy hand-on-hip, etc) and smile!

Elizabeth has a beautiful photo of the wedding party standing/sitting by large rocks in the middle of this slideshow that I absolutely LOVE and had to bookmark. Be sure to hit pause before it moves on to the next pic!

yeah, i would like family pics like that. more natural & not all lined up. but, i'd worry that would take too long. i feel like it to get a great family portrait you need to do a family session. i didn't want to cut into time for us to do romantics.

when we did the impromptu family shots, the ones i like are the ones kristie took between shots when we were looking at each other & talking. there is a cute one of me, mike & my mom. i'll post some later

NOOOO I don't want to do them but I have a horrible feeling I will be made to have a photo taken with the FMIL!! Mind you I can't guarantee I won't stick my tongue out or stick my fingers up lol

I hate those pics 2 and they take forever! We only have the guy for 90 mins so I want pics of us not his FMIL who will dominate everything anyway lol

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
