ATTN: fellow Canadians..an AI pkg question..

How much are (were) your vacation packages to RM/Cancun? If you don't mind me asking...

Especially to any of you travelling (or travelled) in July. The prices I got quoted seem kind of high..I'm wondering if my guests will be better off waiting or booking flights and hotels seperately...Almost everyone is a student, so they can't really afford anything crazy expensive.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

Which resort are you thinking of? It varies by resort...I have travelled to Cancun/RM a lot and stayed at all inclusives and the price did vary by resort.

From Toronto we paid $2,000 for a week at the Riu Palace Mexico in RM in Feb.

I have paid $1,400 for a week in August (Hurricane season) and I believe that was in Cancun at one of the smaller resorts.

Booked both through Itravel2000.

Also did one trip where we used aeroplan points for flights and just booked the resort so did not take a package...it ended up being about $500 cheaper, and typically the chartered flights are around $500-$600 in the packages (per the person I talked to) so it does end up being cheaper as a flight from Toronto can be up to $1,200 depending on when you travel and book. Also when we booked separately we had to take taxis from the airport and that was an extra $60 each way.

It seems like any 4 or 5 star resort is around $1700-2000. If the majority of guests are students, there is a student travel agency called Travelcuts...they give you fairly significant discounts if you have a student card.

Hope that helps!

We paid 1500$ from Ottawa and 1600$ from Halifax for Dreams Tulum (5 star) for March 27-April 3rd with Air Canada Vacations but we only booked about 3 months in advance. I think it would have been a couple hundred more if we had booked way in advance. At that time the price was about the same for various online travel agencies, although the group quote I got from Air Canada Vacations (directly) was higher.

Keep in mind that prices from Vancouver to the Mayan Riviera are more expensive (supposedly, I've never looked into it myself) since it's quite a bit farther. I think this is why many people from the west coast travel to the Mexican west coast (Cabo, Puerto Vallarta, etc)

Our wedding party leaves March 12th from Toronto and we scored a group deal (10+ people) for $1399 + tax for Dreams Tulum! We worked out with our TA well in advance as we feared that the prices would skyrocket. We received this quote in May 2008...people are now being quoted $2100+ for the very same vacation. If you have any other questions don't hesitate....best of luck and congrats :o)

Our guests are paying $1850+tax from Victoria for a January 17th departure. The price from Vancouver would have been about $1750+tax. We could have left on the 16th for less with a flight through Aeromexico, but we would have arrived in Cancun at 11pm and left at 7am - essentially losing 2 days of the trip with the arrival and departure times, so we opted to pay more for the extra time.

I went to Dreams PV from Vancouver in September a little while back and it was only $1200 (taxes in). It's cheaper to fly to the the west coast than the east, so check that out if $$ is really an issue.

Good Luck!

I'm going to Ana's wedding in April at Dreams los cabos and were paying for 1 week all inclusive about $2250 per person...I got married at the same resort in May 2007 and we paid about $1800 flying from Toronto

so it all depends wihich resort what time of year and from which city you're travelling

We were quoted $2000+tax for a couple of 5 star resorts - I don't think it is terribly expensive (especially with them being really nice hotels), but I know I have seen them for cheaper..I think. My FI and I stayed in a 4.5 star in Feb for less than $1600..and that was during reading week and all.

hmm..looks like I have some hunting to do!!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
