Did you meet your fiance online?

Recommended Posts

My FI and I met on Myspace, lol, of all the sites to meet on. He found me on a mutual friends site and sent me an email.. The rest is basically history after a few months of emailing and talking on the phone we went out on our first date and have been inseperable since. I could never have imagined that I would find my soulmate online. So now after 2 years together we are getting married.

my fiancee and i met online at datingdirect.co.uk. as a female engineer and a tom girl, i have lots of guy friends but never see them more than just friends. i did not find anyone that shares my moral and family values and have a similar personality (motor racing, the beach, similar music tastes etc.) as my fiancee (who is also an engineer!). we chatted online and on the phone for a week before going on a date. one date over the weekend turned into three and got engaged six and a half months later! i always say before i do not believe in finding love online, but now, i believe it is possible. people should go and find love instead of just sitting there waiting. that is what i learned after a few failed dates (and realise i am making the same mistakes) and went to search for it and found it.

I did too! I think it's a great way to meet people and it's becoming more and more popular! I hated meeting drunk slobs at bars/clubs and this way you can sort through the jokesters and players to find the true gems!

When we first started dating we were embarrassed to admit how we met. But now I'm proud of it! I try to get my single girlfriends to do it, but they haven't had the same luck as I did.

It's definitely the new age way of dating!

anygirl1169, i agree that you can sort through jokesters and players right away! i mean i am sure there are those type online as in other places, but you can talk to them and see whether you want to meet them and not 'fall for their charm and can not get out'. i can talk to them about how their values are and whether we share some common ground and whether there is any potential to be a lifelong partner before meeting them. although, i still have not admit to people where i met him cause i worry my traditional parents would change the way they see him. i told them that we met through facebook through an acquaintance (which has some truth). my friends and family adore him but i do not want to change how they see him if i tell the truth.

I met my fiance through the MSN chat room 6 years ago. I had just come out of a relationship and was just looking for good conversation. We really talked well together and eventually met up (turned out we lived in the same area!). I really don't know the exact moment when things went from just friends to more than friends but somehow it happened within 3 months of chatting. Only a few people know how we really met because we were both self-conscious about it at the time. We are still a bit self-conscious (especially because I don't remember which people I told the truth and which people I told something else)! I think, however, it is definately a more practical way to find someone especially if you don't get out a lot. I wouldn't change a thing about how we met because I would want the result to be the same :)

lol...that is an awesome quote!

Please share...was it through the "missed encounters" section? For that matter, has anyone ever met anyone this way? I read about them in the newspaper and always wondered...'does anyone ever get a successful response to these?'

No we're not that exciting to have met through "missed encounters" just the plain ol' personals section. I had started looking because a friend used to look at it for the laugh factor, and there were a few that almost seemed normal so I responded since I had some scary encounters from lavalife so figured it couldn't be any worse. We met for dinner, and I scared the crap out of him when I hugged him good night at the end of the date. Came in and told my roommate that I had just met a new "guy friend". A few weeks later realized that I was right, but that he would become more than that. We moved in together after 1.5ys and 2.5 yrs after we started dating he totally surprised me with a ring.

Early in our relationship, I had said I'd like a short engagement but didn't want to get married while still working on my PhD, so now things are in my court. We've decided to do a DW December 2010 as I should be writing up around then, and it gives some of our key family & friends to save up. With so many coming from around the country, we figured the DW thing would be the ideal system as I haven't had my wedding planned out since I was 12 and am not fussy about the fine details. Now we just have to pick a country & resort and we can be off to the races and start thinking about a dress!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
