Did you meet your fiance online?

Recommended Posts

My fiance and I did initially start chatting online (MySpace). I was very hesitant at first since I had never spoke w/ a stranger online before. I turned out he went to high school with a friend of mine. I spoke with her and she couldn't stop talking about what a great guy he was and what a great family he came from. She convinced me to go out with him (it didn't take too much convincing since I had REALLY enjoyed all of our online-chats for the past month). And the rest is history. It's been 2 1/2 years and I can't wait to marry my best friend.

I met my FI through yahoo personals. He was the first person to email me when I signed up. I did not think much of it because he lived almost an hour away! He had just moved to IL from CA and was looking for someone to show him around the city. We emailed for a while and ended up going on a date several weeks later. It's been a little over 5 years and we are finally getting married! :)

My Fiance and I met on a Star Trek Role playing game.... yep that's right

Needless to say neither of us was actually looking for someone, we just had characters that got along well and we sort of followed. Our characters fell in love before we did, which I guess was out way of "testing the waters"

we were online friends for about a year, probably longer, before we realised we'd fallen for each other. He was in Holland and I am in Canada, we flew back and forth to visit for about a year and a half and then he moved to Canada. He's applied for permenant residency and we've moved in together.

Thank god we're not the only myspacers....

Internet dating isn't so much taboo anymore, but with all of the negative press that myspace gets, I've always been a little embarassed to tell people. Plus how ours happened was a little "to catch a predator-ish."

He sent me a message in July of 2005 because he thought I was cute. He left me his number if I was interested in chatting, so I called. We chatted online and on the phone for about a month and a half before we met in person (all the while I was seeing other people as was he). When we actually met, I drove the 90 miles to his town (without telling anyone of my whereabouts) and ended up spending the night at his house (yes that speaks to my loose morals). Fortunately he wasn't a serial killer. We fell asleep together cuddling and that night he actually told me that he hoped his wife looked like me. (I realize thats kinda corny and shallow.) From that point on we were inseparable. After about 6 months, he moved to my hometown, decided it could never be home and returned to his small town. Five months later, I decided that if it was ever going to work, I should try his hometown on for size and it actually fit. Now I don't think I could ever move back to Reno. In March 2008 we became engaged and the rest is history.

I think my family knows the story and anyone that has ever asked, I've been honest, but its definately not something I look forward to telling our kids about. smile72.gif

My husband & I met in a yahoo chat room, and it was fate, because I never did the chat room thing. I was bored one sunday after hanging out at the pool, so I popped in just for giggles & he messaged me, because he figured we could talk football (based on my username). The rest is history. That was almost 4 years ago. cheesy.gif

My FI & I also met online. Almost none of my friends no the truth, it's not that I was ashamed, but 6 wks after meeting him, we decided to go to Miami and spend NYE together. Initially, I was going by myself. It was going to be my first vacation by myself (I used to go to Miami at least 3 times a year, so it was a familiar place for my first vacation alone), but after speaking with him and hitting it off so well, I asked him and he accepted my invitation. Now, imagine me telling my friends and family that I am spending NYE away in Miami with a man that I met online and have never met face-to-face before. They would have given me the hardest time, but in my heart I knew it was RIGHT we had spoken at least 4 hours a night for the last 6 wks (sometimes longer). And we had this undeniable chemistry. We both knew that we had something special, so we throw caution to the wind and decided to go for it! We never looked back from there. It was the most amazing first date ever....LOL (be it a 4 day, 3 night first date).

I know of a brother & sister who met their spouses on match.com. I think in this day, if you are not a social butterfly, it is very hard to meet someone in your every day life. I think of the internet as a way to meet people you wouldn't normally meet in your daily life.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
