Dreams Tulum Closure (consolidated thread)

Recommended Posts

if you can find out the ceremony/reception location options and PM me a list by the 21st, i will pass it along to my SIL.

you're welcome - anything i can do to help you gals out is my pleasure. it was totally random & last minute that she's headed there. she was so surprised i was familiar with the name of the resort, so i explained to her that it was a possible reroute hotel from dreams tulum. one of her best friends is a conference organizer in mexico and so gets amazing rates at resorts, so they are all flying there for the weekend of the 24th and it was super super cheap.

Just sent this email to Mel and thought you would like to know as well.....

Okay, so just got off the phone with Landy. We are moving to the Paradisus (closer to my family that is staying at Playa Del Carmen). She said she will just take the list of guests that I gave her and look up their reservations. She will see any special requests or accomodations that the guests have already communicated with DT about. She will move them into rooms at the Paradisus. She mentioned to contact the TA about the transfers since obviously we will no longer be staying at DT.

She also said the food would be different but we can arrange all of that when we get there...(I'm not worried about food and flowers and stuff, like I mentioned before, not planning anything over again. I'm sure everything will be good).

I asked her about my concern about being put in the corner, since everything is last minute. She assured me I would not be in the way . She said they are going to try and do everything the same as originally planned and that usually PRC only books one wedding per day. I can still have my ceremony on the beach.

I also requested for her to be at the resort with me. There was another gal getting married in DT on my day and she if going to DC. Landy is going to sent Lizet to her wedding and will stay with me during mine (thank goodness!)

I feel tons better. They still have not heard anything about the reopening and are waiting to hear what happens just like all of us.smile72.gif

I think that's it...it was a pretty short conversation, she was about to run over to the Barcelo Resort...I feel so bad for her!

Let me know if you have other questions....

Carina

I feel so much better...and we get officially married on Wednesday...Yeah!smile159.gif

Carina, I'm sooo glad you feel better about the situation. I visited the Paradisus during my site visit and you will love it! It's gorgeous and SO MUCH CLOSER TO THE AIRPORT!! Also, I know for a fact they only allow one wedding per day so don't worry about being crammed into a small corner. They have a private beach area for the wedding and a private terrace available for the reception.

You're going to love it and I'm sure you're just glad to have a definitive answer!

Oh, and congrats on becoming a MRS this week! My FH are trying to pinpoint a date for our legal ceremony as we speak!

I don't know anything about the Iberostar Paraiso except that you can see an aerial photo on the loco gringo map

Iberostar~Carousel resorts: Playa Paraiso photo tour, aerial images

and the beach looks very nice, looks like there is a few rocky spots but some large clear spots which would be one advantage over Dreams Tulum which, as I mentioned in my review, I found to be too rocky for my liking

At least you ladies are being given some choices now!

Carina, I'm so happy for you that everything has been worked out 2 weeks ahead of time. The paradisus looks like an awesome resort so I'm sure you'll have an amazing time and an amazing wedding. This should also help give some confidence to the other girls that your weddings will be re-organized (if necessary) in a proper manner and with sufficient notice unlike with Trish and Brooke for whom it was completely last minute. It's also great that the coordinators are attending the weddings at the other resorts.

Carina-

You must feel soo much better and a little more at ease that Landy will be with you. I know everything will be just beautiful, maybe not the way you originally planned it but still amazing. I wish nothing but the best for you and can't wait to hear all about it when you get back.smile123.gif

Here's the latest on the closures according to several MX newspapers.

The government has agreed to allow one hotel of the 14 to re-open. Eurostar Blue Tulum can now open it's doors after the hotel owners admitted in court they built more rooms/buildings than the law allowed. The "confession" allows the Eurostar to re-open with the promise they will tear down one building, or 52 rooms. The hotel will essentially go to half its current size, from 96 guest rooms to 44.

Now, the articles didn't say anything about the rest of the hotels other than they remain closed by government order.

Not sure how to interpret this.

Does it mean that with time more and more hotels will re-open? Not sure. But hey, it's a start!

I contacted a Dreams Tulum Bride who got relocated last week, and has now returned home. She and her party were moved to Secrets Silversands. And she posted her review on trip adviser. She didnt have TOO MANY bad things to say about the resort... the usual early stage kinks... Here's her response to an email I sent her.

Hi.. besides the initial shock at the airport the wedding went exactly as i had planned for it at dreams tulum... LANDY the wedding coordinator ( who i had difficulties talking to with emails on the internet) is a pleasure in person.. She called us our first night there to soothe our concerns and schedule our blood tests for the morning.. Our second day there we had our blood tests, viewed possible flower arraingments, cake plans, and went over possible wedding locations... We had ours on the beach which turned out great, they have a cleared off sandy spot next to the water that has rocks all around it.. they set up a wedding arch with lots of bright colored flowers( which i picked out).. they set up white wooden chairs for our guests, and lined the isles with these candle/bag things.... Everything turned out exactly as i asked for...

We opted to not have our champaign/cake on the beach.. we decided to have it with our dinner.. We were given two choices for dinner (there was another wedding that day, and they picked 1st.. so we got to chose second) We had ours at Ratoules(not sure of spelling)... but it was awesome.. they set up a long table in the center of the restaurant and seated no one around us so it was very private.. They decorated the table with flowers we had 3 servers so no drink or plate ever went empty.. They picked the menu for us (not sure if you can pick your own) but they servered 3 different appitizers.. dinenr was either rack of lamb, or filet migion.... with potatoes, corn, and something else(can't remember).. then we cut our cake and did toasts... It was really nice....

The only advice i can give you is to defintly bring a picture of what type of hairstyle you want for you wedding day, because the people at the spa are really nice and do a good job they just didn't speak any english at all.. I could only get across that i wanted all my hair up and that i wanted these flowers that i had brought in my hair.. other than that they didn't understand a word i said... if if would have had a picture it would have been much easier.. also my hair cost 50.00 which isn't bad....

And here's her link!!!! :) :) :)

Ill see if I can post the link :) its on trip adviser (hope this work)

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
