Dreams Tulum Closure (consolidated thread)

Recommended Posts

Carina, that's such a tough call. I don't know what to tell you. Part of me says, just screw them and re-book with someone else but I know how much WORK that will be.

As for them switching us to the Paradisus I'm not so sure that will happen. I think they will push very, very hard to switch us over to Dreams Cancun so they won't have to pay the extra $$$ to PRC. From what I've gathered, it was such an extreme, rare circumstance they decided to move Trish and Brooke.

For the brides getting married in mid to late November and December, are any of you considering DPA as a back up plan? I have contacted them and they do not have my date available. I was told that weddings are planned based on space availablehuh.gif?? I'm assuming that means that there is another wedding planned for my date. If infact the unthinkable happens and DT does not reopen, I'm wondering if they will try to work arround this issue?

Any thoughts? Has anyone been in contact with them more than I have?

I also let her know that I want to stay at Paradisus if we have to change resorts and that she should work really hard to make that an option.

Does anyone know what the special circumstance is for Trish and Brooke in regards to how they got PRC? I am assuming it was bc of the photographer.

Well, if I do not get a solid answer by Friday, I am going to send an email to all those V.P.'s Landy, my TA , and Pleasant Holidays and demand that they move my whole wedding party and the ones staying in Playa, to PRC.....

Do you think this would work?
yesterday i had tried to find out from tammy what the special circumstances were that made trish and brooke go to Para., because she seemed to have some inside knowledge, but have not heard back. honestly though, shouldn't we all have the same options if we all originally booked at DT? (yes, frustration is really starting to kick in, I am sure you can tell.) DC does not seem to be where any of us want to be--I mean none of booked anywhere in Cancun for a reason.

I thought DPA didn't open until Dec. 1. To be honest, I 'd rather go there than Dreams Cancun but I will miss the opening by just a couple of days. Also, even if they were to open in time for my wedding....would they be ready?! I'm sure the kinks would not have been worked out. And I'd be afraid not ALL the restaurants would be open by then.

I keep joking with my FH about the whole situation. I ask him if he's sure he really wants to marry me because I have all the bad luck in the world! I mean...what the heck?! Why did this have to happen to us. One of the reasons I picked DT was because I believed it to be an established, reputable resort. Boy, was I wrong!

I would have the same worries about DPA. I'm getting married 12/5 but my entire family (and me and my FI) are flying in on 11/30. I would def be worried about all of the kinks. I dont think I'd risk it at this point.

i haven't looked at other options yet. I'm still holding out for next week. If we're still in limbo next week with no concrete answers than I'm going to start to look at alternatives (and freak).

I'd like to know what thsoe special circumstances were with Trish and Brooke. i agree it would be weird to offer it for some but not all. I just cant imagine how any of these other resorts are absorbing eerything from dreams Tulum given the volume at both resorts. YIPES.

My anxiety level these last few days has been through the roof! waiting sucks... but I'm still holding out hope...

My TA is still hopeful as well. She has a lot of faith in this resort chain, very reputable, etc etc. I promised her I wouldn't panick until next week, if needs be.

Ladies! I just got a response!!! I emailed all of those emails that were posted on here a few days ago- the big wigs at AM Resorts. I feel better having heard from him and that they plan to call each of us individually. Sounds like it is out of their control- delicate situation with the gov't and legal stuff. Also sounds like they may be moving all Oct weddings... see below

That guy, kevin, wrote me this:

Dear Ms. BXXXX,

We completely understand and appreciate your anxiety to be quite honest. Please be assured that we are not trying to keep information from you or any of the other wonderful brides that have planned their special day at Dreams Tulum. The situation is extremely delicate and tense at the same time. It is not at all easy to say when it will be resolved since it is a legal matter and in the hands of the court system. Our legal team is working extremely hard to resolve the matter expeditiously and just yesterday we were informed the situation can be resolved prior to the end of October.

This is positive news to be sure but we are still taking the decision to protect and move all new arrivals straight through the end of this month. This decision was taken today at noon. We realize this is challenging to hear and we feel terrible that you and all our other brides are "worried sick". We will be calling each and every bride that is planning their wedding in 2008 in order to discuss the situation with them personally and give them a better comfort level. We, of course, do not wish for you to have any greater anxiety than already exists.

Even though we are confident that this will be resolved as indicated, we want to assure you that we will of course protect your wedding, rates and guests at one of our Dreams or Secrets Resorts in Cancun/Riviera Maya or will protect you in another resort of equal or better quality.

Once again we regret that you have been caused this anxiety and hope to have the entire situation resolved as indicated above.

Thank you very much for your understanding.

Kind regards,

Kevin Wojciechowski

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
