It is because the hotel gives a certain amount of rooms to vendors including travel agents and online retailers. Expedia might now have sold their room block.

Wow... all this information... crazy.

As for an update on the "brides to be" list, my civil ceremony at the airport on the way to Cancun is Nov. 1, but my symbolic ceremony in Mexico at Secrets Maroma Beach will be Nov. 5th.

Alin, I am sorry you didn't get your first choice of hotel. That really sucks. sad.gif

As for people with new guests arriving, I called my TA and she advised that any new guests would have to book through Secrets Maroma Beach directly or carriers with rooms available. The BAD thing about this is that Secrets is WAY MORE expensive than Dreams Tulum was so if I have any last minute bookings, they will have to pay a huge rate, which I feel will discourage them even more from coming. I had hoped for a few last minute stragglers, but I don't think that will happen at all now.

As for wedding planning, I have summarized all my e-mails to Sandra/Landy over the past almost one year and re-asked my outstanding questions. I understand that Landy will be meeting me at the new resort some time after I arrive to plan the wedding, but I don't know when and I don't know if there are any other weddings on my day. I am not flexible about the time as wedding programs (expensive and time consuming) have already been prepared and with a 3 o'clock start time, it's ideal for photos, cocktail hour and then dinner.

Oh jeebers... I guess we'll see what happens. Nothing can be done at this point, I leave in one week.

I have thought of the pros and am trying to focus on this - Secrets Maroma Beach is adults only (kind of a nice surprise to be at an all adults since I had no kids booked but originally thought there may be some, so didn't book at one first off), and the beach itself in the Maroma area is very nice.

As for the cons, the resort is brand new, so no weddings that I have been able to read about have been done yet (maybe I'll be the first) and that leads me to think it may not go through as smoothly as I would like. Also, food at a new resort can sometimes be off and on... so we'll see!

I really take offence to this frankly. There is a DT bride who is getting married on the same day and the same thing happened. I said No. Frankly I picked the Paradisus, after tons of research, b/c I didn't want to get married at a resort that did more than one wedding a day.

Why is that mean? b/c I want my day to be mine and mine only? Hotels have policies - I appreciate that you are stressed out but there are lots of other resorts that are prepared to do 5 wedding a day. I don't think it's about being inflexible - I think when they make exceptions they lose reputational points with the industry as a "one wedding a day" resort and from those brides who have chosen them particularily for that reason.

Please don't call me inflexible. You don't even know me.

MissyR- I think you might be over reacting here.

All of us DT brides are stressed to the max over our current situation and are venting. We are at the mercy of decision makers who tell us where we can get married and where we can't. Words can sometimes get taken out of context.

I do agree with you that you did pick your resort becasue it only preforms one wedding a day.

But just think if you were in this situation. I'm sure you could understand how a bride that had planned and planned and planned her wedding the way she wanted it at her resort only to have the mexican govt shut it down and not receive any information from that resort until 2 weeks prior to her wedding would freak the F#@! out. She has little time to figure out a back up plan that she thinks will be a very good compliment to her original resort.

Which is why she inquired about getting married at your resort. Please don't take offense to her statement. I'm sure she was just venting.

I think alin & mako may feel that its unfair about the whole situation not just about any particular brides. None of the displaced DT brides want to go to a wedding factory either. We picked Dreams Tulum because they only do 2 weddings a day Max, but most people have the day to themselves. It just sucks that we are put in a position that is beyond our control and lost the resort we spent so long planning and researching for. Paradisus is one of our only options so it is hard to accept that it is also ruled out because of their policy. I respect the policy but in circumstances like this it can be frustrating. Imagine if you were told that Paradisus closed and the other place you wanted to go to wouldnt let you because other people didnt want to be gracious.

Also, I am sharing my wedding day with DreamsTBride and in no way do I feel like that takes away from my wedding. Im happy that we get to share the experience but we are in no way feeling like we are sharing our day. We wont even see each other for the day. I just think we should all be understanding that this is just an unfortunate situation and some peoples hearts are a little broken over the whole thing. I know mine is.

I think for most wedding stuff you should be contacting Landy/Lizette as it sounds like they are travelling to the other resorts for all weddings to handle all the details.

For something like a spa appointment though, you can take care of this yourself, that is what I did. I contacted the spa myself by email to make my appointments so that I would know it was taken care of. I suggest you call the general hotel phone number and ask to be transfered, or ask for the spa email address, or if you find an email address on their website write to them. Worst case scenario you can just book it when you arrive, 99% chance are they will be able to fit you in but if you are very unflexible about the time you want your hair to be done (personally I was) then it would be better to try to schedule it in advance.

I completely understand both of your positions, and am not taking sides at all but I suggest we cease to discuss this as it could get ugly and the brides on here have enough stress and drama as it is so perhaps people can just agree to disagree and not talk about it anymore. I would hate for brides to get more upset than they already are.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
