Dreams Tulum Closure (consolidated thread)

Recommended Posts

IMPORTANT, VERY IMPORTANT!

I just got off the phone with the resort to confirm their closure. Dreams Tulum is in fact closed. Yes, closed. I read it in a Spanish newspaper and wanted to believe it was yellow journalism.

Unfortunately, Dreams Tulum along with Eurostar Tulum resorts ARE CLOSED.

I don't mean to sound so harsh but to be honest I am freaking out.

Apparently, the mexican government claims these hotels didn't have the "appropriate licensing" to build on the land. The woman I spoke with on the phone told me they do have all the permits necessary. Sooo, I was told they would fight it in court this week and we should know more by early next week.

I'm trying to stay calm. My FH just said "what the f#@$!!" and has decided to leave and go swimming with my nephews. Great, leave it to me!

So, I will post more when I know more.

If you have ANY info, of course we would all love to hear it!!

this is what the resort has sent...they think it will be resolved very quickly as the guests at the resort are allowed to stay and have full use of facility.

Quote:
As indicated earlier today, the federal authorities have entered Dreams Tulum questioning the permits and authorizations for the resort. While the authorities are reviewing our permits and while we are seeking a "parole" in order to continue full operation, we are taking the precaution of relocating all arrivals until Monday, October 6th. Guests that were already checked into the resort prior to Friday evening are in Dreams Tulum and services have not been disrupted.

We are still uncertain how long it will take for the authorities to review our permits and/or for us to obtain the parole so this action is necessary in order to ensure guests will have an uninterrupted holiday experience with all the services and facilities they expect. Until we are sure that the guests will have access to the entire resort and facilities, we feel this is the best course of action to insure the guests stay is comfortable.

We will continue to relocate the guests to Dreams Cancun and Secrets Silversands and the resort sales team will be in touch to discuss this further in detail. Please rest assured that we will do everything possible to resolve this situation as expeditiously as possible.

Thank you for your understanding.

this is what i received...sounds like it is more the government is just checking to make sure the proper permits are in order. they have not relocated any guests that already checked into the resort:

Holy effer!

Did they say how long they were going to be closed or do we need to wait until they are out of court?

I just got home and wanted to get on here ASAP!! A guest of ours was randomly on trip advisor and saw something about the closing; that's how we got tipped off. Yes, it's extremely frustrating that we don't hear anything from the resort, especially for people like Trish with a wedding so soon! My FI called the 800 Dreams Number and spoke to a woman who said she thought things would be back open in about a week... there was also talk of moving things to Dreams Cancun or their 18 and over resort (I think it's called Secrets?) if things were still closed by our date. GRRRRR.

I have just gotten off the phone with Monica, who is a manager at the resort. She said that the resort is closed however, only about half of it is closed. It is not specifically the old or new part of the resort so there is no way of knowing which rooms will be available.

She will know more information tomorrow at noon and will give me a call back.

I've been reading some of the Spanish newspaper and it said that the Mexican Marines along with their equivalent of the Dept. of Environmental Protection entered the hotel this weekend and started condemming random buildings.

I am hoping for the best. I hope it is just another way for the Mexican Gov't to try to get some money. Obviously the workers need their jobs so I hope they are doing everything possible to resolve this.

I will give everyone an update after I speak with Monica tomorrow...

The question is....should we give our guests a heads up? Or wait until the week ends and we see what the outcome is?

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
