Why Me? What is wrong with the photo world?

Recommended Posts

I want a photographer like this! I love her style but her prices are outrageous! Can anyone help me find a photographer who gets it like this girl? Is it too much to ask for a photographer who isn't going to break the bank or make me pull my hair out! I just needed to vent!

Someone please help me, I am so bummed right now!

Good photography costs money. $30,000 in camera and computer equipment, education, spending 50+ hours working on a single "8 hour" wedding between editing, client meetings, etc...

Add on insurance, taxes, pay for assistants...

The best deal I know in South FL. is Tony Schreiber... a total steal at his current prices.

I was surprised at how much good photography costs, since I really had no idea before planning a wedding :) However, we weighed it and think that good pictures are worth it, so this has become one of our biggest budget line items! There have been a lot of disappointed brides who decided to skimp on photography (that being said, I have also seen some brides who are really happy just going with their resort photogs...). I absolutely love our photographer and can't wait to see the pics after...I think it will be worth it!! Good luck finding a photog.

I was surprised once I began looking at pricing. My FI and I had decided on a few items that we would not skimp on and photography was one (dress and location were the other two). My photographer was a small fortune (more than even I was expecting) but I have no regrets even though it boosted the budget. My photographers are amazing and I am thrilled to have them there. Everytime I looked elsewhere I had a hard time finding what I was looking for and if it was close, it was close in price so we just went with my first choice. Later found them published in the knot so I took that as a sign.

It is really up to you on what you want/can spend, but remember as we get old and our memories go (or as we tell our children/grand children) the pictures live long after we do....so you want them to be good (at least this was our thought process). Good Luck

So true. And there's also other expenses such as advertising and marketing as well.

In addition to a lot of on the job training, I also have an M.A. in Photojournalism which took me two and a half years to earn, a lot of hard work, and a considerable amount of $$$.

I think you should look at your wedding photography as an investment that will return some wonderful dividends down the road. Remember, the images that your photographer makes on your day will not only help you to remember all that you were feeling and thinking as your groom took your hand and said I do, but they will also be passed down to your children and grandchildren as an heirloom of your family history.

One way to free up some $$ for your wedding photography, is to go through your budget and trim off some $$ from other areas such as the flowers or the dj, etc. If you do this, before you know it you may find that you now have an extra 1k or 2k to put towards your wedding photography.

Hope this helps.

Best wishes,
Tod

I agree with the pp, our photographer is the most expensive thing about our wedding and IMO well worth the money. It was the one thing I knew we would splurge on because our pictures are all we'll have when we are old and gray and our memories start to fade. lol Good luck finding what you're looking for.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
